The Battle of Bunker Hill, also called the Battle of Breed's Hill, was the first major battle in the war and a sobering pyrrhic victory for the British. Fought outside Boston, 3000 British Redcoats engaged 2400 militiamen fortified within a hastily-built redoubt at the heights of Breed's Hill. Due to having limited powder and shot for their muskets, the patriot soldiers were ordered to hold fire until the attackers had gotten extremely close to the line. The outnumbered and undersupplied defenders had successfully repelled two waves of British Soldiers before being routed. In the end, it was estimated that the British had suffered 1054 casualties taking the hill, over double what the continental army took at only 450 casualties.

The siege and capture of Fort Ticonderoga was the first offensive victory for the Continental Army in the entire war. Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys, as well as Benedict Arnold, launch a surprise attack on the Fort, capturing it and the valuable equipment stored within. The Continental forces suffered no deaths and only one casualty in the decisive victory against the skeleton garrison. The weapons captured in Ticonderoga were later used in order to capture Boston. In the end, Fort Ticonderoga remained in the Patriot's hands until the Saratoga Campaign where it was recaptured by British General Burgoyne.

The Battle of Lexington and Concord marked the start of the Revolutionary War. 700 British troops were dispatched from Boston on a mission to destroy military supplies that the Massachusetts Militia had stored at Concord. However, patriot spies had already sent messengers such as the famous Paul Revere to alert the militia of the coming redcoats. The two forces first met in Lexington where the first shot of the entire war, the shot heard around the world, rang out. After routing the militia in Lexington, the British forces found themselves outnumbered by the Patriots and were sent retreating back to Boston.

The Battle of Yorktown was the final battle in the American Revolution. Awaiting Resupply in the town, British General Cornwallis and his 9000-man garrison had held up, awaiting relief by the royal navy. Seizing the opportunity, nearly 20,000 American soldiers and militiamen, along with their French allies, descended upon the outnumbered British Garrison. Meanwhile, the French fleet had blockaded the Chesapeake Bay and successfully routed the British navy. Completed surrounded and outnumbered by both land and sea, General Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington on September 28, 1781.

Battle of Saratoga

The Battle of Saratoga is often considered to be the turning point of the Revolutionary War. In 1777, the British plan was to launch a three-pronged attack on New York, converging on Albany in order to cut off New England from the rest of the Colonies. Low on supplies, the British led by John Burgoyne attempted to break through Continental Lines, with the first attack failing. After some time, the Continental Army had grown to over double the size of the British army and had fortified their positions. By the end of the battle, the British were virtually out of supplies, surrounded, exhausted, and forced to surrender. This victory is what gave France the necessary confidence to join the war, and ultimately allow for a Continental victory.
