I know that children’s literature can be applied across all subject areas to engage students and to help them in starting formulating ideas about the context they are learning. 

I’ve used CL with students both in the classroom and as a summer tutor. I also took a course here called Creative Writing for Children’s and YA Literature which was informative about the inner workings of CL. 

I hope to gain a better understanding of how to analyze and apply CL in a classroom setting, both to utilize a text(s) to teach on a topic but also to encourage a love of reading. 

I’ve used Children’s Literature to engage my students in various subject matters, to show them various writing styles and narrative voices, to influence their own writing voices, and to expose them to concepts and ideas that may be foreign to them.  Read-alouds are also important for building a classroom community. 

I’m just excited to see what this course will cover and what tools/knowledge I can bring into my own classroom about children’s lit.
