For the last three classes all TY students went out to the field to partake in a number of activities. The activities were run by a group called 'Get West.' We were split into groups. First up we did archery tag which was like dodgeball but with a bow and arrow. It was very hard to hit each other with the arrows but I still found it fun. Next we had some team building excercises with a man from Kinsale. I enjoyed them games. Next we went on a climbing wall. That was my favourite. It was pretty darn lit. Finally we did football darts. Just as i thought it couldnt be any better they brought out some pizza. I really enjoyed the experience. It was all about preparing for our expedition which was on Thursday. On Monday we went abseiling and orienteering. On Tuesday we went doing mountain orienteering and canoeing. I thought the canoeing was the best. For Wednesday - the final day before the expedition - We did camp craft and a route card.Camp craft was where we learned how to put up tents and cook food with a tranja. The route card was given to us so we could find our way around the mountains. Then on Thursday morning we were dropped off at our location and began a 15km hike through the mountains. This took us about 5 hours. Finally we came to the abseiling rock where we abseiled down 35m down to where five canoes were waiting for us. We did a kilometer canoe and arrived at our campsite where we set up our tents, got a fire going, cooked some food and settled down for the night. There was a lot of wind and rain and even some lighting. In the middle of the night there was a visit by a goat which scared the living daylights out of me. We did lots of things in the pool. My favourite thing to do was volleyball and soccer. They were the best. We did races up and down the pool and competitions on who could hold their breath longer. We did the Lifesaver Programme in there. It was about safety on the road. A guard, a paramedic and a fireman talked to us about safety on the road. They showed us clips of stories of the families of and the people affected by road accidents. It is a place where older people with disabilities are looked after. You have to be over 18 to be admitted there. In the centre people are looked after. They do many activities throughout the day and try to blend into the general public. They showed us CPR compressions and how to save a person that's choking. We were shown different burns and how to classify them. They gave us a demonstration on how to use a defribbilator.
