Blood diamonds are mined in war zones and sold to finance insurgencies.<br><br>2.&nbsp; The area usually includes Central and West African.<br><br>3. Warlords use extreme violence in order to force the locals into extracting their diamonds.&nbsp;<br><br>4.&nbsp; Civil War in Sierra Leone, a group known as the revolutionary united from killed threatened and even cut off the arms of people in Diamond villages.<br><br>5.&nbsp; In Seirr a Leone, 20,000 people were mutilated and millions fled the country&nbsp;<br><br>6. According to National&nbsp; Geographic news blood diamonds are responsible for 4 million deaths&nbsp;<br><br>7. The problem wasn't really made known to the public until Leonardo DiCaprio starred in the movie "Blood Diamond"&nbsp;<br><br>8. The diamond industry responded to the movie with successful PR campaigns people kept buying&nbsp;<br><br>9.In 2002, the Kimberley Process certification scheme was created to regulate diamond trading and prevent illegitimate diamonds from entering the market<br><br>10. It was envisioned by the diamond industry and instated by the United Nations&nbsp;<br><br>11. The beers and the rest of the diamond industry now claimed that 99.8% of diamonds are conflict free&nbsp;<br><br>12. In 2006, the United Nations and the US government released reports showing that nearly 23 million dollars of blood diamonds from the Ivory Coast were smuggled into Kimberley Process.&nbsp;<br><br>13. The Kimberley Process relies on hopelessly corrupt governments of diamond producing countries to check and clarify their diamonds are legitimate.&nbsp;<br><br>14. Certifications are then attached and sealed along with the diamonds as they exported&nbsp;<br><br>15. The United States can then ensure that diamonds are not from illegitimate sources&nbsp;<br><br>16. Government officials get paid off to let diamonds through or they get smuggled across borders into legitimate trading channels&nbsp;<br><br>17. One of the founders of the Kimberley Process, Qian Smiley even resigned from the group not long ago&nbsp;<br><br>18. The diamond trade is all bad legal diamonds promote development in underdeveloped nations&nbsp;<br><br>19. The Kimberley Process did at least initially manage to curb a significant amount of violence related to blood diamonds&nbsp;<br><br>20. Consumers aren't any way to know where the diamonds came from&nbsp;<br><br>21. You could try synthetic diamonds, the natural diamond monopolies hate those and good ones are chemically indistinguishable&nbsp;<br><br>22.&nbsp; You could fly Africa and make sure the diamonds are legit with your own two eyes&nbsp;<br><br>23. Informed about how the things you buy every day get on the store shelves through channels of violence and exploitation&nbsp;<br><br>24. At any rate, the diamond industry continues to grow every year<br><br>25.
