I think that this movie was really well done. It makes us aware of some things we may not think of on a daily basis. Moreover because there aren't many characters, we are able to make bonds with them and feel involved in their own story. This movie shows us a reality of our society which we know should change. But also that solidarity is sometimes what can save some people in need. This movie was simple, moving and efficient to denounce aspects of our now numerical society.

I also saw the film a few weeks ago. I love Ken Loach's films. It was indeed very moving, and, as Mrs Hazard has just said, it depicts the reality of our "modern, technological" society. Humble people don't ask for help, they feel ashamed. The vicious circle Daniel Blake is taken into makes us mad and we feel like blowing the whole so-called "benefit system". I think it's no better here in France! Computers are supposed to help and make life and administrative procedures easier, but they so often have the opposite effect.
The relationship between Daniel Blake and the young woman with her 2 children is also very touching. They are also very good actors.
I highly recommend this film. Let's think about the people who have less, and not only because it's Xmas time!

I don't think we can say we loved watching this movie, because it is revolting ! In my opinion, it is very important to show the reality of life. Of course, this movie won't be as successful as blockbusters can be, but it should be ! Because it shows the unfair world in which we live in : if you don't fight, if you don't shout to get what you want, you don't get anything ! It is the law of the strongest !Daniel is battling to be heard throughout the film. Everything is made to make him give up : the absurd law, the phone calls, the computerized form… But he perseveres and he symbolizes those who don't want suffer the new social policies of the government or to be the victims of an unfair society. He also represent hope and mutual aid in selfish society.

This movie is really moving, the old man, Daniel Blake was a poor man with a great heart that helps people in bad situation even if he suffer like when he made a cupboard. The only one problem of the film is when he died because it wasn't a good idea to kill him after his battle for get money. Its also a problem we have nowadays, 6 million people are poor in France, in bad living conditions.... But it was a beautiful film

This is repeated to say that money rules the world's spirit but it's the case and we know it and not even 1% of global people will raise a little finger to fight against this problem. Is it the lack of skills, of rights, of power?
Moving, attaching, I, Daniel Blake will make you change your way of thinking.

I, Daniel Blakeis a realistic film directed by Ken Loach. The film, which takes place in Newcastle, is about a man, Daniel, who had a major heart attack and can’t work anymore because of it. As he fights against the system, he meets Katie, a single mother who has similar problems. He tries to help her and her two kids, Daisy and Dylan, and they soon become friends. To me, this film is a tragedy because the story is very sad, and it’s all the more sad since it’s real. My favorite scene was the scene where Katie and Dan argue because he discovered what she was doing to earn money. I found this scene extremely moving, because it shows how much they love each other.

The story takes place in Newcastle. This film represents the reality of the British system with the people in need and it denounces this, Ken Loach didn't took a lot of characters in order to make people understand the meaning of the film easily. The film can be called a tragedy because there is a lot of sad situations and it ends with the death of Daniel.

I, Daniel BLake is a very emotional film, although there is no music and the style of filming is very minimalist, the emotions are conveyed

My favorite scene was at the Job Center when Daniel Blake protected Kathy and met her, because a lot of people wouldn't react against this injustice and although Daniel is old and not strong he did his best to protect Kathy.

I don't like sad films but this one taught me a lot about the British system so I enjoyed it.

I, Daniel Blake is a movie about a man and a family in a system where bureaucracy is cruel. Technically the movie is really well done, there is a real work on the image and on the shots. The only strange thing is the fades to black which are used to go to another scene. All looks real in the movie : places, characters, situations, … We really see real life. The scenario is made to show a realistic story, and it also tells a well think story. It only get è has? some little wrong points in my opinion like some events which are predictable, but it can also surprise as well. The movie is a real pleasure to watch but a thing disappoints me a bit. It only shows one point of view, and the general message could be “bureaucracy and laws are bad”. I know this is not the message and the characters never say that, but sometimes it only looks like this. It could have been good to show another point of view and to show that rules are also done to protect and help people fairly. There is also a real atmosphere, made by the characters who all look like a community unlike the bureaucrats. The main theme is the cruelty of bureaucracy, it shows a real cruelty of this system and those who experience this. There is also a several reprimand on those who try to help the people or to fight this system. It opposed the humanity of some people and the mechanism of those who are just like robots, following rules even if it’s cruel. To conclude, I recommend I, Daniel Blake for everyone, except if you do not like too realistic movies or sad stories.

"I, Daniel Blake" is a film which shows the reality of the English health insurance through the character of Daniel Blake. He is a middle-aged, widower and generous man suffering from heart problems. He lives in Newcastle which is located in the north of England. It's a poor city with a huge rate of unemployment. He meets a young unemployment woman who is called Katie. She lives alone with her two children. We follow them while they try to manage in the life : for example, when Daniel Blake tries to apply for a job on the Internet, when he goes with Katie to the food bank. Ken Loach shows the absurdity of the English administration where Daniel Blake has to find a job in order to get the health insurance whereas he is ill and his doctor forbade him to work.

So, this is a social film during which we smile because of people's generosity but we are also upset and shocked of the system which leads to do terrible things and we can be also moved and sad.

Charlotte

In order to survive he has to fight against this government if he wants to earn some money. During the movie, we follow him and his battle. No special effects or smoothing like that, just a man with a story who meets other people who have life problem too. The film deal with us a story and a message, this message its kind of a satire against a welfare medical system in England. In fact a throughout the film we can see the difficulty for Blakes to earn his benefit however he merits them. The movie makes me feel sad particularly at the end but I think it's too easy for an end, he died and nothing after, "i still hungry".

flag (drapeau)

In fact the story is very sad because Daniel Blake is trapped, he can't work after his heart attack whereas he has to work in order to survive. This film is very simple, both its actors and the scenes. Ken Loach wants to denounce the policy that can be seen in Great Britain. In fact this movie is a cry of distress from Ken Loach.

To my mind the saddest scene is one of the last, when he was going to win his case and he suddenly died in the bathroom of the court. This film deals with a man who had a heart attack and who wants to have the unemployment benefit because he can't work for medical reasons. ''I, Daniel Black'' isn't a blockbuster, it doesn't attract everybody, it's about reality and sometimes, people don't want to see reality in a cinema . I think this kind of filming is the right approach fir the topic of ''I, Daniel Black'', it's simple, without transitions or special effects, it's realistic. Katie is a mother with two children who comes from London because she didn't pay for her rent, Katie wants to have a job too and she wants to have money from the Jobcentre but she can't. With his film, Ken Loach denounces bureaucracy and the government of the United Kingdom who don't help poor people. I found the movie hard and sad but I understand the message which Ken Loach wants to share.

I, Daniel Blake is a movie which describes the harsh reality of unemployment and the benefits system in Great Britain. A simple and minimalist movie which represents the world such as it is today. Between injustice and personal difficulties, Daniel's life is painful; nevertheless he fights for his rights and helps Katie and her children in refurbishing their house. A deeply moving movie with a touch of humor. A must-see!

Hey, I'm Alexandre Przyszczypkowski and i would like to give my opinion about the film that i saw "I , Daniel Blake" by Ken Loach . First , the story takes place in a city named Newcastle located at the north of England , the main character is a man, Daniel Blake, who for the first time of his life, after a heart attack ,needs to use social help . But instead of rest , he has to find a job whereas he could be disciplined. While one of his regular appointment to the "job center", Daniel met a single mother named Katie with her 2 kids who just got expelled from her last flat because she criticized the owner. They're gonna face together the social system of Britain. To my mind the film was great because it's nice to show the bad side of our societies . That's why Ken has chosen the small town of Newcastle instead of London or others big town. By the way i would recommend you to watch it, the film could raise your awareness.

I, Daniel Blake, a film by Ken Loach (2016)

Topic

“I, Daniel Blake” is the last film of Ken Loach. It is about Daniel Blake, a 59 years old joiner who cannot work anymore because of a heart attack. For the first time, he needs help. He applies for the sickness benefit called “Employment and Support Allowance” but he is registered as if he is still able to work.
As he is looking for a job, he meets Katie, a single mother, who lives in a one-roomed apartment with her two children. Both of them have to face a bureaucratic and dehumanized system.

Setting

The film takes place in Newcastle, an old industrial city. But nowadays, a big part of the population is very poor since many industrial workshops have closed. The town experiences an economic and social crisis.

Style

This is a minimalist film that represents the world as it really is.

Characters

In this film, there are two main characters: Daniel Blake and Katie. Daniel Blake is old and ill. He doesn't have any family, as he is widowed and doesn't have any child. He needs to ask for his benefit because he cannot work anymore (he is cardiac).
Katie is young and she has two children. She has difficulties because her boyfriend left her. She is alone with her two children.
There are also many other characters: Ann, Sheila, the menbers of the security, the two Daniel Blake's neighbours, the chef-manager of the garden center, the man whom Daniel Blake meets when he tags the wall of the “Employment and Support Allowance”. But, all these characters are not as important as the two main ones.

Ivan SOLICH
1re S-2

I really liked the film; It was really touching and it showed uq the reality of his Society.

My favourite scene was when Daniel Blake wrote on the wall "I, Daniel Blake...". It was a powerful message.

Daniel Blake is a good person because he helped a poor woman and her two children to live. The saddest scene was when he died in the restrooms when he had the chance to see justice done.

That's it.

Thomas Vanhelst
