         <description><![CDATA[<p>There is an ongoing debate about whether having a retirement age limit of 65 years for every workers. Some argue that this limit doesn’t consider the variation of job roles, but we need to consider it because different job roles need different skill set. I firmly believe that a fixed retirement age is unfair, and certain workers should be eligible for early retirement based on the nature of their jobs.</p><p><br></p><p>These roles typically involve long hours of standing, lifting heavy materials, exposure to noise, dust all of which can lead to serious health issues or burnout over time. Firefighters and police officers, for instance, face life-threatening situations. Similarly, healthcare workers deal with emotionally taxing emergencies that can result in long-term unhealthy life.Professions such as police officers, firefighters, nurses, paramedics, air traffic controllers, teachers, electricians, and construction workers experience significant physical and psychological stress. Workers in these professions should be eligible for monthly pension payments, continued or early access to health insurance, and medical plans. Moreover, early retirement would allow them to spend more time with their loved ones and relieve them from job-related stress, fatigue, and physical strain, ultimately improving their quality of <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://life.In">life.In</a> conclusion, a limit retirement age does not fairly account for the challenges faced by different occupations. A more equitable system would consider the impact of work on long-term health and well-being.          <description><![CDATA[<p><br></p><p>As of August–September <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">2023</a>, 24% of households were moderately food insecure, up from 17% in March <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">2023</a>. <br>The estate sector is particularly vulnerable, with 51% of households experiencing food insecurity. <br>And 6.3 million people—nearly 30% of Sri Lanka’s population—face moderate to severe acute food insecurity.</p><p>What has our government done to stop this?</p><p>Governments use a variety of strategies to reduce malnutrition, addressing both its immediate causes and underlying factors. These strategies are often multi-sectoral, involving health, agriculture, and social welfare departments.&nbsp;</p><p>​1. Direct Nutrition Interventions<br>​These policies directly address nutrient deficiencies in a population.</p><p>2. Education and Public Awareness<br>​Raising awareness about good nutrition practices is a cost-effective way to fight malnutrition.</p><p>​3. Give Direct Help (Cash)<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; · The Aswesuma program gives money directly to the poorest families so they can buy food.</p><p>4. Grow More Food<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; · Help farmers with seeds and fertilizer so they can grow more rice and vegetables.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; · Encourage everyone to grow food in their own home garden.</p><p>5. Keep Food Prices Stable<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; · Work to control inflation so that the price of basic food like rice and lentils doesn't go too high.</p><p>What has Private sector done to stop this<br>About Manudam Mehewara</p><p>What it is: A multi-corporation humanitarian initiative launched during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis in 2022.</p><p>Who’s involved: Private sector giants such as Dialog Axiata, Hemas, MAS Holdings, Brandix, Cargills, Ceylon Biscuits (CBL), Citibank, and Unilever Sri Lanka, together with Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement and other NGOs.</p><p>What they do: They provide dry ration packs, food supplies, and emergency aid to families struggling with hunger.</p><p>Impact: The program has already reached over 100,000 vulnerable families across all 25 districts, with a target of supporting 200,000 families</p><p>Manusath Derana is one of the most recognized private sector–led humanitarian initiatives in Sri Lanka. It is run by TV Derana, a private media company, and has carried out many programs to reduce hunger and support vulnerable families.</p><p>* <em>Dry Ration Distribution:</em> <br>During the economic crisis and COVID-19, Manusath Derana distributed dry ration packs to thousands of low-income families across the island. These packs included rice, flour, dhal, milk powder, and other essentials to ensure families did not go hungry.</p><p>* <em>Collaborations with Corporates and Donors:</em> <br>Many private companies (like Hemas, Brandix, and Keells) have partnered with Manusath Derana to extend their food relief programs.
