Liberals and Nationalist began to unite and rise up. 1848 rebellions broke out Sicily and Austrian controlled Venice in Milan. Austrian general von Raddatz planned on retaking Milan. Kingdom of piedmont-sardinian was ruled by Charles Albert, he put down liberal uprisings supported in Spain and Portugal. Australians who were preoccupied with revolutions in Hungary and Vienna clever sites here held and Milan and Venice voted to join the kingdom of piedmont-sardinia. French troops were able to capture Rome and French troops remained in the city until 1870. The revolution ended with a new constitution. Mexico was ruled by local dictators known as qua Diaz. He kept firm control over Mexico around 1900. There was a large gap between rich and poor. Francisco Madero emerged as the voice of the people. Madero was removed from power because he was seen as an unfit ruler, and later on killed.
