Diversification means to invest in many things rather than just one. This way, if one of your investments fail, you have not lost all of your money. Diversification lowers risks, although it does not eliminate them (Personal Finance, 12).

It is incredibly important to diversify. If you have ever heard the saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket", that is basically the concept that is being applied here. You do not want to invest all of your money into one thing because if that fails, you have lost your savings. Instead, you should invest in things that tend to move in opposite directions so that if one is performing poorly, the others keep your savings moving in a positive direction (Personal Finance, 12).
