Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward black people. BLM regularly protests police killings of black people and broader issues of racial profiling, police brutality, and racial inequality in the United States criminal justice system. In 2013, the movement began with the use of the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on social media, after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of African-American teen Trayvon Martin. Black Lives Matter became nationally recognized for its street demonstrations following the 2014 deaths of two African Americans: Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

Bibliography: https://www.loc.gov/item/lcwaN0016241/

People felt powerless and didn't speak up because they were scared of career repercussions or thought they wouldn't be believed. Times Up wanted to change this by helping all the victims, especially because often perpetrators weren’t held responsible of their actions. They promoted the movements on social media through hashtags to offer people a place to share their stories in order to spread knowledge of the issue. Additionally, the movement established the Times Up Legal Defense Fund, offering financial assistance and legal representation to individuals facing sexual harassment or workplace retaliation. Finally the victims could pursue legal action against their abusers and feel more comfortable in their workplaces. So although there's still work to do, Times Up has made things better for many people and made workplaces safer and fairer.

The #GunControlNow movement aims to make gun ownership laws stricter to reduce gun violence and mass shootings. It started because of many incidents of gun violence in the United States, including shootings in schools and public places. The movement wants things like background checks for everyone who wants to buy a gun, bans on certain types of guns, and closing loopholes that let people buy guns without proper checks.

It's hard to say exactly how much the movement has helped, but it has definitely got people talking more about gun laws. Some places have changed their laws because of the movement. For example, some states now make everyone get a background check before buying a gun, and some have laws that let police take away guns from people who might be dangerous. The movement also raises awareness about how gun violence affects communities and encourages people to speak up for change.

The hashtag #LoveWins is associated with the celebration of marriage equality, particularly in the United States, where it became popular after the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage in 2015. The phrase "love wins" is used to express the idea that love is a powerful force that can overcome adversity and injustice, and it has been embraced by the LGBTQ community and allies as a rallying cry for equality and acceptance. However, some critics argue that the phrase can be overly simplistic and may overlook the ongoing struggles faced by many LGBTQ individuals, particularly those who are marginalized due to factors such as race, gender identity, and socioeconomic status. Despite these concerns, #LoveWins remains a powerful symbol of hope and progress for many people, and it continues to be used in social media and other contexts to celebrate love and diversity.
