The earthquake struck just 80 km away from the capital of Pakistan. Kashmir in Pakistan and North West Frontier Province were affected the most severely. Kashmir is located right in the junction of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates where the Himalayan mountains were formed so there was a lot of tension until one day all the tension created a 7.6 earthquake on the Richter Scale. The earthquake was a still a 7.6 on the mercalli scale. Also about 5 million people lost their homes and had to be transferred to another place just to survive. The families who survived but lost their homes had to bare with the cold harsh environment during the winter. In some of the regions, towns slid off cliffs and most of the people killed were families in those houses. Muzaffarabad had the most damage taken. It's towns were completely destroyed. landslides destroyed roads making it impossible for help workers to come aid the injured during the after math. About 90% of the buildings were reduced to rubble. All of the parents recovered their dead children from the school collapsing and all of the survivors were mad at the government that they did not act fast enough to save everyone. All of their houses were very bad structure and toppled over easily. The P waves show when the earthquake started. The surface waves are waves that are found on the surface like ripples of water on the surface of the planet that can only move along the surface.
