I just turned 20 in October and I am currently attending Butler Community College and I am in my second year. I am majoring in Elementary Education, however, I plan to transfer to WSU to finish my last two years and get my Bachelor’s in Art Education. 

I moved out this year in September for the first time with my friend Caitlynn. Living on my own instead of with my dad, step-mom and four step-siblings is nice but lonely sometimes. I miss seeing my dad a lot, but I go and see him often when I am off of work. 

I started a new job at the end of October, I work at Wal-Mart as a Online Grocery Pickup associate and I usually take groceries out to people’s cars or gather groceries for customers. It is a really nice job and I am so busy it makes the time pass quickly and serves as a good work out too as I walk around and lift stuff periodically throughout the day. I work 11 a to 8 pm, which is not ideal but for now it works. Having time for school is hard when I get home so late but having school online helps a lot with time management. I love art as a whole. I doodle at work and at home I like to paint and soon I want to paint some furniture to match my apartment. I love pottery the most but due to working so often and being busy on my days off I haven’t gotten to make pottery since high school. I hope to make pottery a lot this summer and more later on in college if possible. 

In my spare time I spend time with my boyfriend, Karen, who I have been with for two years and he will be moving in with my roommate and I after the new year. We watch a lot of TV together, play video games and like going out and exploring new places in Wichita. 

When by myself and having alone time, my favorite thing to do is make a cup of coffee and paint, while watching YouTube videos. I love watching Jenna Marbles, Taylor Reilly, and Good Mythical Morning.

Another passion and hobby of mine is tattoos. I have many tattoos at this point and want many more, but don’t have the spare money for more at the moment. Below is a picture of my favorite tattoo to date. It is for my dad, it is the pig blimp from the Pink Floyd album Animals with his favorite flower, a blood lily. I am a visual and hands on learner because I can watch someone do something and repeat it myself and get a hang of it pretty easily. I am not the best auditory learner, I often miss details and have to have the information repeated many, many times before grasping the concept. It is definitely a challenge when having to listen to stories or audio lessons. Thankfully that has not been very present in my lessons so far in college. 

Subject wise, I love English and Literature courses. I struggle a lot with mathematics, history, and science. If it doesn’t interest me, my brain doesn’t like to retain it. Which is hard for science and history tests. Math confuses me because formulas and equations do not make any sense to me which always resulted in me failing math tests and having to receive a lot of tutoring just to catch up. I love math when I understand it, it is very rewarding to complete an equation and have the correct answer. But I feel the most defeated when I get one wrong. 

Art is my safe place, as there is no right or wrong way to do art. Art is in everything and you don’t have to memorize anything or study for it. I would love to teach a pottery class but anything art related would make me happy. 

I want my students to know that the classroom is a place to be creative and know it is a judgement free zone as long as they are being appropriate and kind with their art.
