Grant in capturing Fort Henry and Fort Donelson in February 1862.</p><p><br/></p><p>He traveled to Washington D.C. to serve in an administrative role but disliked it so much he left to rejoin the action but died of wounds on June 26, 1863.Connecticut supplied 51,937 troops.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Hartford born Samuel Colt founded Colt's Manufacturing Company and provided the Union with ammunition and a variety of handguns. Naval personnel carried the famous Colt Navy .45 caliber revolver, and so did many Army officers. Connecticut did more than its share on the home front.  </p>]]></description>
