         <description><![CDATA[<div>the 1st residential school in the USA.  <br>By mid 18th Century asylums or "schools" were open to accommodate people with disabilities. The primary purpose of such institutions was to provide protective care and management; no education or treatment was available at the time. There was no federal founding available dedicated to helping people with disabilities; instead, states that wanted to demonstrate their progressive stature provided funding for new institutions. <br>The nineteenth century was a progressive time for helping people with disabilities. </div>]]></description>
