During a volcano, it would be best to always have your radio on so that you can follow the instructions given by the authorities of the area. It would also be smart to avoid rivers, dams, and other water supplies so that there is no risk of a mudslide around you. The best way to ensure your safety is to leave the hazardous area immediately so you can avoid flying debris, dangerous gases, and lava bursts.

After a volcano, you should go to an assigned public shelter unless you've been told to leave or feel it's unsafe to remain in your home. Local authorities may not be able to provide information immediately on what is happening and what you should do so it's best to watch TV, listen to the radio, or check the Internet frequently for news and instructions when available.
