Music makes me think of empathy. Listening to and creating music is a way to process experiences, connect with others, and connect with one self. Music should be empowering!

How does music bring people together? 

One way that comes to mind is my inviting people to dance with one another! By establishing a common rhythm and vibe, people can be present and enjoy time spent with each other!

- It creates a conversation of others' experiences and emotions with your own.
- It helps to relax from complicated thoughts and busy schedule to focus on the self.
- Music is history! The music is part of the art world that connects to world events and a person's life (like Beethoven's symphonies). There are also music pieces that are created in response to war, peace, society, etc. By understanding music, we are able to understand the struggle of the writer and the common experience of people at his/her period of time. It's about cultural legacy and history.

How does music bring people together?
- Themes of music are likely to share similarities that break language and cultural barriers. For example, I was sharing a song for my high school choir class, and it was written for the singers' grandmother in Chinese. In the middle of the song, I saw my classmate and my teacher wiping their tears because they are really moved by the melody even if they don't understand the lyrics in Chinese. The commonality of emotions are able to make connections for people.
- Sharing Joy. Quick and strong beats are able to resonate with heartbeats (in my opinion). The music with rhythms that has the same beats as heartbeats would probably give more bodily relaxation and gain more attention. It's like making a brain/emotional connection with the hearing experiences. - To me, music has always been a powerful form of expression, a force for understanding ourselves, others, and the world we live in.
- In my life, music is also a huge source of comfort and connection. Music is a big part of my family, and growing up, my brother and I used to play music and sing together. To this day, even in times when we can't call or be physically together, sending each other songs is a way we show love in my family.

- Music is able to encompass emotional experiences and aspects of life that can't be as easily expressed/encapsulated in words. Music is at the heart of human existence and it offers ways both to escape and to dive deeper. It helps me tap deeper into emotions - elation, sadness, excitement, wonder. I used to make films and music was always at the center of any scene I was composing because I believe it carries the emotional frequency of a film. When I was in college I would go to raves completely sober and just drink water and dance for hours and hours - the rhythms and energy sparked from music are so energizing both physically and spiritually - part of what makes life worth living!

It is a language that speaks to everyone. It has brought me and my family together - singing lyrics together and tapping powerfully into memories. Music is joy. Music brings me pleasure that is hard to express with words. At times it's a driving force that helps me motivate myself to push through life and at other times it helps be sit back, rest and reflect. I love singing my heart out as much as I love listening to songs that make something stir within me.

How does music bring people together?
Music is a transcends language. While both are forms of communication music helps us connect with each other not only through symbols and meanings woven into them but also our sensations. We can feel the music in the air and with our bodies. This shared sensation helps it become a basis of empathy that is wholly human.
