I had an English teacher named Miss Hightowers and even though she didn't speak Spanish, she always looked for ways to connect with me. At that time it was my first year as an EL student and I felt supported and that motivated me to speak in class without feeling judged with my accent.

It is important to show carino because it allows them como feel comfortable and break out of their shell to practice english.
ALWAYS validate their language, and have a suggestion box( that can allow students that are shy express themselves)

A time I experienced cariño in a classroom was in my 5th grade science class. My teacher was very welcoming and always showed us love to have us in her classroom. She would call us nice names like “mi niña”. I think showing love to students makes them feel wanted in their classrooms.

A time that I felt cariño would be in my elementary years where I was learning English , there was a teacher that sat with me and made sure that my pronunciation was getting better as the school year went by.

One of the benefits of showing carino is that students feel comfortable and safe to use their home language. If we don't support the use of it, they can even feel ashamed of using their language, and I think it's very beautiful to embrace it.
I would like to show my students support and motivation to share their culture, their language, and even their traditions because diversity is an important thing to have in a classroom, so students can have knowledge of different cultures.

As a believer I never participated in Halloween and unfortunately I had some mean teachers that would punish me and make me feel bad about it so instead they would send me to the library to read books. I had a teacher in 6th grade who showed cariño by allowing me to stay in her class and watch movies because she was understanding of my beliefs, I felt cared for and finally someone understood.

I felt a lot of cariño by one of my high school teachers when I was in 10th grade. He was always very understanding and helpful with all of his students whenever we could struggle and in class.
