It depicts that Finland has around 500,000 less students than NYC, and have much smaller classes as well. This allows for more attention given to students, and even though one in three Finnish students receive some sort of special help, there are no separate classes for different leveled students.

This approach to education is definitely unique, but it works for Finland based on their PISA results.

PISA is a standardized test created in 2001 created with the intentions of comparing different educational system. In 2009, Finland ranked second in science, third for reading, and sixth for math. The United States ranked fifteenth, twenty-third, and thirty-first for those subjects, respectably. This huge difference shows how much more sophisticated the Finland education system is than the United States.

In order to become a teacher in Finland, it's required to have a Master's degree, and even if that's attained, only the top 10% of graduates are accepted into teaching programs. This exclusivity of being educators makes the job extremely desirable in Finnish society, just as much as doctor or lawyers. Because of this, students in Finland receive only the best teachers that are found in the country.
