1967- The first BPP office opened in Oakland, California.  In Richmond, California Denzil Dowell was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies. Thirty armed Panthers and their supporters went to protest the Mulford Act. Riots happened in major cities . The Black Panther increases its circulation tenfold
1968 - In Orangeburg, South Carolina on the South Carolina State Campus local police and National guard fire on a crowd of unarmed students . 33 black activist were shot and 3 were killed . A "Free Huey" rally was held on Newtons birthday. Anthony Cortalle was killed in Watts by a local police officer . The New York BPP chapter was organized . 3 Panthers were arrested in Seattle Washington.
1972 The Black Community Survival Conference was held at Oakland Civic Auditorium. Ten thousand bags of groceries were given away with canned goods on the bottom, packaged goods in the middle and a 4-pound chicken in every bag. Seale announced his candidacy for mayor of Oakland. Panther Elaine Brown announced her candidacy for City Council.  Both candidates lost.
1973 The Oakland Community School opened to educate the children of the Panthers. A capacity of 150 kids was soon reached.
1982 The Black Panther Party was dissolved. Oakland Community School closed and Newton was charged with embezzling $600,000 from the school. He was sentenced to six months after pleading no contest to stealing $15,000 in state aid intended for the school.

The Black Panther's focus on helping the community created a better image for the movement. Black Panthers focused on educating African American children of their culture and to have pride in their color.
