Female audience

In terms of addressing the audience, to introduce the characters, we used a variety of camera angles, sounds and mise en scene. When we first see characters, we judge what kind of people they are because of stereotypes. Therefore, we had to do as much as we could in the first few minutes to introduce the character and portray her for the person she really is and not how people jump to judge her.

The female character in our opening, I think is going to attract the audiences attention because she is just a young girl in the world, on her own. The teenagers that are watching will be interested to see how she manages and they would compare how she copes to how they think they would cope. Also, the fact that she is a female will attract the female viewers as i think they will want to watch her grow strong and see her fight to survive. As well as the action and violence she takes part in, attracting the male audience.

The typical audience for post-apocalyptic films are male teens-young adults, that is why we want to go one step further and attract a wider variety of people. Those are the ways in which we intend to attract the audience.

Mise en scene

The mise en scene in our film engages with the audiences curiosity in to the scene, character and story. This is why we used the props and setting we did, because we thought it would make the audience curious as to why those places and items have been used. The dirty and dark setting will make the audience sense danger and sadness and wonder what has happened and why it has happened. Also, we used some props like the gun would also appeal to the gamer kind of people because theyre interested in guns and similar things.

Male audience

The male audience, I think, is the main audience of this genre of film. So as well as trying to be different to appeal to the female audience, we still have to appeal to the male audience because they are the people most likely to be watching our film. Although, I think the teenage boys are going to be the majority because there is a teenage girl as the main character. Also, I think it is the violence and mature themes that attract the males. For example, when I asked my male friends if they would watch my film, they said yes because they like to see girls doing 'bad ass' moves and killing things left, right and centre.

The Plot

I also think the storyline will play a huge part in attracting the audience into watching the film. Our film has a different kind of storyline to the usual post apocalyptic films. It is not just a zombie film. People often associate post apocalyptic films with zombies and dont think of the other things that could cause an apocalypse, The fact that the girl is the cure for what has happened, is not usually found because the whole part of most films is finding the cure or seeing the characters come to terms with the fact that that is how they have to live from now on. We even named the title of the film 'Proliferation' to hint at what the film is going to be about,

Our distribution company was also made with dark backgrounds and plain fonts to before the film even starts, they know what genre the film is and have an idea of what will happen throughout. The camera angles are also part of it, by using the correct angles and speed of editing, it will engage the audience into the film. Such as slow editing with the calm parts of the film and fast editing when there is danger and action involved.
