         <description><![CDATA[<div>Ghana, first of the great medieval trading empires of western Africa (fl. 7th–13th century).<strong> </strong>It was situated between the Sahara and the headwaters of the Sénégal and Niger rivers, in an area that now comprises southeastern Mauritania and part of Mali. Ghana's population spoke various languages, such as<strong> </strong>Fulfulde (Fula), Soninke, Arabic, Malinke, Mande.<strong> </strong>By the end of the tenth century, Ghana probably had more than two million residents living in a territory that covered more than 250,000 square miles. This empire practiced the religion of Islam.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It is known that this Empire had a strong involvement in the Trans-Saharan Gold Trade, which included many imports and exports. The main things they'd trade were salt, gold, copper, iron, ivory, and many other materials. Ghana grew wealthy from trade through taxation. Along with gold and salt traders carried copper, silver, cloth and spices. Traders had to pay taxes on the goods they carried to Ghana and took away with them. The most influential rulers of the Ghana Empire were Majan Dyabe Cisse and Diara Kante.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

I think reasons to become a ruling empire are that the land's abundance of resources allowed Ghana's rulers to engage in years of incredible trading. Strategic financial solutions along  with Ghana's great location led to a very wealthy empire.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
