After asking a question, students will "turn and talk" to discuss what their thoughts and ideas are. After a couple of minutes, the teacher will ask what each pair thought of. Ideas shared do not have to be from the individual sharing.

An alternative to turn and talk, share, and scribe assigns roles to a pair of students. Students are assigned either Partner A or Partner B. While one student is talking, the other student is writing and following the instructions of the other student. After the allotted time ends, the two switch roles. Both Partners are teaching each other and learning to allow taking turns.

This strategy is beneficial in my 7th grade math classroom because students will go through equations together encouraging each other to follow instructions and remember steps.
