I am interested in working with Archer and looking at ‘hidden’ processes that shape what happens and why certain education and employment trajectories happen. I am a new member of staff and looking to develop potential research collaborations. Deep dive research seminars would be really helpful - can we ask Archer for example to come and speak?

Linked to the comment Russ made on the call…in Health and Education we used to have a community of practice around methods. It was a nice ‘safe space’ where people could come and ‘present’ - but presenting could be asking for help with a budding idea

There are quite a few inexperienced people in the group, so perhaps a simple guide to Critical Realism, and different realist approaches available with example applications, and selected key publications.

I think a good working principle in this would be to keep things as simple and accessible for a) those of us less experienced in forms of realism and b) to avoid us breaking into pigeonholes. The inter- and multi-disciplinary nature of this group feels really positive to me.

Hi folks. I am familiar and experienced with Pawson and Tilley’s Scientific Realism approach. Really interested in the varied applications of the approach in community and education settings. It’s capacity for theory generating to inform change (evaluator).

My hope in being involved in the group is to use the reach of the Institute of Sport to support areas of health, community development and delivery of collaborative degree programmes that use sport’s broader social appeal. I too would absolutely contribute to a webinar series.

Not sure this is viable, but hey ho. Considering there are PhD students in here, and others might join, whose own supervisors might not always have depth knowledge on CR, might we have a mailing list for people to ask general methodology-type questions to get a quick steer from people with more experience?
