While reading both of these books, we've noticed that both of these novels share similar themes
The themes are:
-Dreams/Hope
Both Edna and Tony share this theme and it's an everlasting one within the novels. In Fences, Tony wants to become a baseball player but due to his race, he can't become one. In the Awakening, Edna wants to be free from her relationship but can't because she's worried about what society would think of her. Both of them have hopes and dreams that can't be fulfilled.
-Betrayal
This is another theme in the books. In Fences, Troy cheats on his wife and ends up getting the other woman pregnant. In Awakening, Edna cheats on her husband and feels more empowered.
