When I first pictured the stars in my head, I thought of perfect little wire stars. Little did I know it would be much harder than that. I did not realize how hard it would be to form the stars and be sturdy. When I started the process of hanging them, I imagined them being perfectly balanced and filling the space nicely. But when I came to actually doing it, it was harder making sure all the stars were balanced. When I first envisioned my completed project, I imagined the whole space to be filled with stars. But due to limitations, the middle of the skylight is empty. Although it is not what I first pictured it did turn out for the most part how I wanted it.

At first I needed to improve the quality of my stars. The wire was very uneven and unclean. Also some of my attachments were lose and not that sturdy. I was originally making the stars free handed but later, I discovered that adding more nail where my connections were improved the joints of the stars, making them more sturdy and straight. After I finished all of my stars, I had gotten them all hung up in one day. But when I came in the next day, most of them had fallen down. What had happened was my string was to fine and pulled through the sticky tack. So, I switched to a little bit thicker string and tied tiny knots at the top so the string would not fall through.

I tried using several different connecting methods when first starting my stars. Two of the ones that I liked to most was one, where the wire came to the joint at the nails I would twist the wire together. Another was I would make a circle by wrapping the wire around itself. On the second day, I added more nails to the stencil I used so now at every connection point there was a nail. As I began to create many stars, I decided to try out some different wire. So i decided to use come copper and aluminium. The aluminium was very easy to bend and manipulate. The copper was pretty easy as well. I really liked to contrast of colors the copper and aluminium added to the stars of my original wire.

When constructing my nails, I first started with five nails at each points of the star. I made a couple of stars like that. But when doing this I realized the stars were wobbly and bending. So then I thought to add more nails at the inside points, so now I had nails at every connection point. So not only did this make constructing them easier, but it made them stronger and neater looking. Another thing this helped me with was how fast I was getting them done, before I was only getting two or three, but now I could finish more. So I made it a goal to make a minimum of four stars per class. This helped me keep on track with my progress. After I finished the construction of my stars I had to start hanging them up. When doing so, I was having a hard time deciding how to hang them. I had a lot of factors like which length and where to place which. So after I cut my string and attached them to the stars, I laid them out and organized them until I liked the layout.

The first day of making my stars I stood back and looked at the few I had made. The first star I had made was out of a thicker wire, but I then had switched to a thinner wire. So the first one really stood out to the wire I was now using. Also, you could also tell the improvement made in the connection points between my first and the last one. On about the third day of working, I decided that all the stars kind of blended together. So I decided to add different types of wire to through in a settle pop of color. The first time I hung them up in the skylight, it was kind of random. And when I was finished, I did not like the layout of them. I ended up having to hang them all up again, but this time I planned the layout before hand. I feel this helped it be more visually pleasing.

After my first day of working, I figured that I should have a solid mold to form my stars. I also had two different connections when making the stars. One was twisting the points and the other was encircling the points. I was doing this at first to see which would give me the best finish. But after doing a couple of each, I decided that I had wanted to stick with doing each connection and rotating every other star. On the fourth day of making stars, I decided I need to decide on how many stars I wanted to make. So I decided I wanted to end with 16 stars. I wanted to have that end goal in my head because I knew it would take me awhile to hang them up and get them how I wanted. And plus I wanted a little wiggle room just in case anything went wrong with the hanging process.
