Before the easter holidays we went to the Tate modern art museum in London to look around and get inspired from different artists and how they present art. We found out that the theme of the FMP was originality so this was a wide open theme which gives people the chance to be creative and not have to focus on a theme that is not very open.

Today was the first proper day for m to start the FMP as I was not in just before the easter holidays because I was in hospital. Today I have started the project proposal, I have written the main bit which was limited to 500 words, this I found easy to do as I have completed a project proposal before for the last final major project that I have done. I have also written out the action plan/weekly plan for each week up until the screening, I have organised what I have to do in the weeks I have left well so that I have enough time to complete each task within the project. I have also started planning my FMP, as I am working alone for this project I am doing all the job roles which are included within this project. Today I have learnt that this project will be harder then the rest of the other projects the I have done as not only am I working alone but there is a lot more content to do to meet the requirements to meet the brief. I have also made a work padlet which will show all my work in an organised padlet which each task separate so my work will not be all over the place. Tomorrow I will be finishing the project proposal, finish planning the FMP and hopefully start my research report explaining the difference research methods and if they would work for my project. To meet the industry requirements I have learnt that I have to evaluate in every task and Harvard reference properly in the right format. I will do this when I write the research report as I will evaluate each of the research methods so I know what the pros and cons are for each method. I will continue to look at the both good and bad sides of each task I complete. I will also be making sure that I use the right website to put the links from different websites into the right format. Overall I think I have chosen a good idea for this project as there is a lot I can do with what I have chosen.

Today i started to really think about the first idea that i choose and after spending the morning thinking about how i was going to create the first idea i have changed my idea completely. The first idea I had was to make a nature portfolio about how people are ruining nature without realising it but I overheard within the class that someone else was doing something nature related so I had to re think my idea and I changed it completely. I am now going to do a documentary about the debate on graffiti and if people think it is an crime or artwork. I have chosen this because it isn't spoken about often enough and there is still a debate whether this is okay to do or not. The main task that i have done today is change everything so it now fits my new idea instead of my old one. I have changed my project proposal so it now explains my new idea, the research that i'm going to for this project and the equipment that i need. Another task that i have done today towards the FMP is the planning, i have almost finished this task and i will be doing research tomorrow. I have learnt today that if i changed my idea further down the line i would of not got everything finished in time and would of failed the FMP. I am glad I made the decision to change my idea now as i still have time to finish everything and it hasn't effected where i am at with the project.

Today was a day where not a lot of work was done as we had guest speakers in for most of the day. I went home at lunch as i found that the guest speakers were not use to me and i wanted to go out and try and find places to shoot, so i done that instead. During the time that i was at college we had a presentation with delta about a new course that is available to use in September. This course is a level 4 course in more or less everything that we have been learning throughout the two years that i have been here. The course is free if you are under nineteen yet if you are over that age then you have to pay for it as its not compulsory. I have learnt within this presentation that i still do not want to carry on with media after i leave college and instead i will get a job and do photography as a hobby. i have made this decision as i have been at college for 3 years now and i want to be out in the real world instead of being taught in a classroom. the obstacles that i will face when i leave college will be trying to look for a job that i want. i have started to look for jobs now so that when it comes to leaving at the end of June i will be prepared.

This week consisted of the first deadline for the final major project, task one A and B was due in on the 25th which was also the day where I was needed elsewhere. To get everything done by the deadline was a like a race against time where I was doing everything I could to hit all the points to pass this task.

For this task I put together some research for my project which needed to be in a range of techniques. I conducted a survey monkey to ask the public what they thought about graffiti and if they thought it is a crime or artwork. I evaluated the results within a search summary, which proved to me that there was still a massive debate about whether graffiti is vandalism or artwork. I also looked into graffiti that already exists and what people's reactions to them were. I also looked at graffiti to find inspiration to know what type of graffiti to include in my documentary. On the day of the deadline I was needed by a family member to help with their college project so I left half way through the day. This made me rush through all the things I needed for the deadline which was not my ideal plan because I knew I would get a referral for this task.

Within this week I learnt that sometimes I need to put myself first and concentrate on college because I was rushing for this deadline. I will definitely be ready for the next deadline and will not rush things because it could and will make my grade go down.

I need to improve on my timing because I leave things to the last minute and rush things which could affect my work. I will not rush for any other deadline because I need to concentrate on every task to make sure that I get the grade that I want at the end of the year.

This week we started task two which to create a research portfolio which shows the influences and development of my idea, this had to include a wide range of research. For example, I needed to include a range of primary research and a range of secondary research.

For this task I started to look at was the different styles and techniques used within a documentary and which new I wanted to include within my project. I done this research because I have not made a documentary before so I want it to stand out and make people engaged. the next thing I looked at was what graffiti actually was and why people have different opinions about it. I wanted to know why some people were okay with graffiti and some people think that all graffiti is vandalism. I found out that people don't mind graffiti if it is done on the person's own property yet when it is out in public on buildings it is classed as vandalism. With that I mind I went on to look at existing documentaries which revolve around graffiti and where it came from. This helped me realise that the debate about graffiti has never really been discussed that much within social media at all really. I included an interview with a few college mates into my research which I evaluated with this research portfolio. This showed me that people win my class have different opinions to me and have proved that there is still a graffiti debate. I also included a mind map within this research portfolio which shows where I will be filming, why I will be filming and the different opinions on graffiti.

Within this week I learnt that to do well in this task I had to work hard and focus on what I was doing. I learnt that within research there is a lot to consider because you have to research everything and not just the simple things.

This week I wanted to improve on condensing my writing because I write to much within documents and sometimes ramble on and not sticking to the task or the topic I was meant to be talking about. I will definitely improve on this when writing up any other documents within this project.

This week was mainly to focus on the task two deadline we have on the 10th. This was the second deadline we have had since the final major project has started. This task was to create a research portfolio with many aspects and styles of research.
I created a 11 page word document including 9 types of research and including a bibliography at the end. i have considered my target audience and what they want to see within a project, i have included them into my work as i have dont survey's and an interview. i have looked into the professional industry and have looked at what already exists within the media industry and what i have to do to make my work stand out and be different. I have also included industry professionals as i want to know the roles and responsibilities of my job roles. I have done three of these as i have many job roles because i am working alone. The practical problems that i have had was that i lost motivation to carry on with the course with such little time left. I overcame this by speaking to my dad, this made me realise that is i throw this all away now i have nothing and will regret it later down the line.
I learnt that i cant give up on my work just because it gets hard. i have to carry on as there is such a small amount of time left. I have learnt that this project will not be easy as i i have been referred on the first task, which was not a shocker to me as i was not motivated at the time of doing task one. I have to be focused and have good communication with my assessor as they are there to help me with my work.
I need to improve my motive to get work done if not i will have wasted two years and not get anything out of it. I have to work hard and not be behind in my work as i do not have time to not care about my work. I will also improve on the communication that i have with my tutors and my assessors. These people are there to help me and not for me to ignore.
This week has been an emotional week for me as i almost gave up this course and the qualification that i will get out of it because it was getting hard. I have decided that i will prove myself wrong and that i can finish this course on time and come out with the grade i want.

This week was good as it was including a trip to Harry Potter studios. This was a compulsory trip set up by the college to make us realise the amount of work and effort goes into making a film. For this trip I wanted to look around and see how things were made like the costumes and the potions used within the harry potter films. Although I have been here before it was nice to go against things have changed a bit. Within the trip I was able to go into the train which I was unable to dolts time I went, this was interesting as I was able to see how hard it was to filming a small area.
This trip has made me realise to make a film you will need a lot more then a few actors and a camera. the making of the Harry Potter films was amazing as I actually got to look around properly at the different textures used within the trees within the forest and the animals within the film. I learnt from this that to make a single tree within the film must of taken over a week as the amount of detail within them.
To improve this trip I would have had little tasks within the trip to complete so you actually learn information about the films instead of just looking around. I think this because people will actually learn something instead of just waking around.

This week i really wanted to focus on getting some filming done for my production. I went out to london and tried to find graffiti that caught my eye, i found a few pieces that were very interesing and made me wonder how did they actually do it. For example some graffiti was on ceilings and the tops of tunnels, this is the graffiti i like because they went that extra mile to out their mark on the world. I found one guy finishing off his graffiti piece which was really interesting to see. After today i will need one more day to film and one day to get the rest of my audio then I'll be ready to hit the editing and crack on with putting my production all together.
I will put together my shots today and take some more next week to put into my documentary. I have almost finished getting all the audio and photography i need for my production then it will be time to edit.
This week i will need to improve on getting stuff organised for other deadlines as i got a referral for task two because i forgot to put the link onto my showbie. I really need to focus on what im doing within these last couple of weeks.
This week i learnt that if i dont make sure everything is done up to a good standard i will not get anywhere with my grade. I also learnt that graffiti takes days to do and complete as the guy doing it in the picture below had been doing this piece for several days.

This week started off with me helping someone else (who was in another group) with their project which was good as i got to see another person's work and see what they have done for the final project. I was an actor with no lines to say so helping within this project was simple and easy so this didn't take up too much time so after break I could get back to my projects deadlines were coming up.

I started putting my documentary together by putting the pictures on a timeline within premier pro. I wanted to show good and bad pictures of graffiti within my document so I made it a pattern with one good and one bad in a sequence. This was to show that there are two different sides of graffiti of which people have an opinion on. This went well as it was simple to put pictures on premier pro, the only issue I had was what pictures to choose as I wanted to make them affect people who have an opinion on graffiti.
I have included some audio within my project yet I'm waiting for my other audio to be recorded by the people themselves. This is an issue as I don't know when I will get this audio which puts my editing on hold as that is all I'm waiting for. This is an issue for me as the people who I asked have known that they have to record for me a few weeks ago yet when it came down to it they was not really helpful.
To solve this issue I will be giving the people a time limit to record their audio by so I don't fall behind with my work.
I learnt from this task that I need to plan things a bit more in advance as the people I asked was busy with their project with the same deadlines as me. I hate my project being rushed right near the end yet this was not intierly my fault.

This week (after a week of waiting) I was finally recording the rest of my audio so I could put together the final edit of my project. This had issues as after waiting all day for my audio to be recorded by the people themselves I was disappointed when they said they can't record it and I had to record it Thursday morning. After getting the audio I was finally relieved that I had everything for my project.

I was playing around with the audio which I already had on my project as I wanted it to sound good with the other audio. I changed the order I wanted people to take in so it sounded like I asked them their opinion before recording them. The was what I wanted as it makes their answers more realistic and on topic. I asked the people I recorded to go into a bit of detail with their answers as I needed to get the timing right. This was not a problem as their opinions were very strong.

I learnt this week that I needed to put more effort into my work for for it to be a really good project. Yet because I has lost all effort for college my project is not very good in my opinion. This is my fault but I don't really care if people do not like it because I don't either.

The issues I had this week were getting people to record where they have to just talk and it was not my speaking as well. I fixed this problem as I asked them for their opinion about what they thought about graffiti and then pressed record so it wasn't like they were just speaking without answering a question.
Below is a screenshot of one part of audio I got which was just over 20 seconds long. This bit of audio was the bit that I was waiting for, after getting this I was disappointed as it was quite short. After listening to it I realised that I needed to edit this by cutting bits out as there was spaces between them speaking and people in the background. So I was not impressed with this but I can't do anything now.

This week I was finishing my final edit and exporting it for feedback. I put the rest of the audio onto my project and cut all the bits out that had people in the background or was too quiet to hear even on the highest setting. I also made a survey monkey after break so I could get feedback on my project and see what other people thought about it.
The issues I had was cutting the audio, this was hard as it was very small sections that I had to cut out also I had to get the timing right so I didn't cut anything that I wanted to keep. I overcome this issue by concentrating on each second of the audio so I made sure I didn't cut anything that wanted in my project.
At the end of my project I wanted text to say 'what is your opinion?' yet doing this manually was a struggle as premier pro was not letting my change the text so I went onto google and got a picture which says the same text. I wanted this at the end of my project as I wanted to engage the audience so they think about their opinion about graffiti.
After break I made a survey monkey which was asking the public what they thought about my project. The issues I had with this was thinking about the questions to ask the public. I always find this hard as I don't want to ask loads of detailed questions yet I want their honest opinion about my project.
This week I learnt that even if I don't like my project because it is simple and a bit boring other people may like it so I need their opinions about it. I also learnt that doing a project by my self was a to of work and I'm glad that it is all over now and I leave in two weeks.
Below is a screen shot of how long my project is, this proves that my project is not very long yet it has a lot of content within it. My project is very short because I did not want it to be that long as it will get boring otherwise.

Talking Head’ Presentation Assessment Criteria: Unit 13: 6.1, 6.2

For my talking heads presentation i wanted the introduction to include why i wanted to do a project about graffiti and where i got my inspiration from. This was easy to explain as i wanted to show that graffiti has two sides to it and not many people think about the art/creative side of it. they only think that graffiti is a crime and is vandalism.

For the target audience aspect of my presentation, i wanted to make it clear that my audience was for 15 years and over. i wanted the older generations to see that graffiti is not just vandals writing abusive words on the walls but it is art work of people who want to express themselves.

The research that i conducted for my project included looking for places that have graffiti near where i was and making sure that it was not too expensive to go and get the pictures that i wanted. I also researched a bit about graffiti and saw that many people who have became famous for their graffiti started out doing graffiti on buildings and tagging their names onto things. This was interesting to find out because it means that anyone can get famous if they do graffiti in a creative way but they just have to keep it appropriate for the public.

The outcomes of my production was different to what i expected as i changed the final product from a video debate to a visual debate which included pictures of graffiti and opinions of the people that i interviewed. This was a good outcome as people clearly saw what my project was about.

For the marketing part i wanted to make a poster and business cards. I decided to go with these as it was a simple way to get people's attention and let them know that i can take pictures for anyone who wanted them.

Overall, my production went better then i originally planned and i am proud of what i have done within my project. it was definitely harder than i expected to get everything done within a time limit but i managed to keep it in control and finish my work.

https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/art-crime/0/steps/11888
https://londonist.com/2012/06/londons-top-graffiti-and-street-art-locations

Preparing for SHOWTIME Assessment Criteria: Unit 13: 6.1, 6.2

Preparing for SHOWTIME

I produced business cards for myself using the website called moo.com, this was easy to use and simple for me to create my business cards. I wanted my business cards to show a picture or two of the photos that i took so far plus i wanted my contact details on them so people can contact me if they want a photographer.

i invited my audience to my showcase my messaging my mum and asking her to come and view my work. Also i invited my partner by asking him in person as i live with him. I made sure that i had more than one person come to the showcase so i can see the different opinions of different people in different generations.

To prepare for the showcase i had to print of some pictures from my final images and make sure they were printed off in A3 so they were big enough to see from a distance. I also listened to the interviews i conducted and got people's opinions and made them into quotes which were all in different fonts and colours so they stood out within the pictures. The final thing i done was look at different graffiti logos and tags and choose some to print off and cut out, these were also boarded and made to stand out.

I was responsible for assembling my work onto my section within the showcase. I put all my photos and quotes up on the wall using bluetack. I was proud of the way i organised this as i had pictures and quotes separated from each other and making it nice to look at instead of a mess with everything everywhere.

I was responsible for greeting my guests by standing by my work and explaining it so they understood what my project was about. I was also there to answer questions if they had any and to make sure they enjoyed looking at my work.
I helped with the dismantling of my work by taking down all my work and making sure that the area that i was in was clean and no work was left behind. I made sure that no blue tack was left on the wall as it was not my wall to leave stuff on. I cleared all my work away without causing disruption to the rest of the showcase.

Practical Skills (Production, Post-production) Assessment Criteria: Unit 13: 3.1, 5.1, 6.1

Practical and Technical Problems (AC: 3.1)

I used a DSLR camera to take my pictures and I used Photoshop to edit my pictures to make sure that they was bright enough and had enough contrast within them. I used the crop tool on Photoshop to take out anything that i did not want within my picture then i used the brightness/contrast tool to brighten the colours and sharpen the textures.

I stored my images on the SD card which was in the camera i was using then i transferred them onto my computer desktop so i could access them easier and edit each one individually.

The only software that i needed was Photoshop and this was already on the apple mac that i was using. This was easy to use as i have had experience using Photoshop before in other projects so i did not have a problem using this software.

I backed up my edited images onto my documents which was on the computer memory. This was because the computer gets rid of anything left on the desktop after you log out. I had to make sure i backed up everything that i needed before logging off if not it would begone forever.

Production & Post-production (AC: 5.1)

I concentrated on the concept of my idea because even though the final product changed i still wanted to show the debate about whether graffiti is a crime or artwork. I went from doing a video with interviews to a visual images and quote aspect. I did not plan this on changing but after having spoken to my tutor i would need to do visuals to pass and the video was not powerful enough.

I also concentrated on the timing i had to complete my production. I wanted to have everything done by the showcase so i was not rushing around trying to get all my work printed on the same day as the showcase. The production schedule that i have on my padlet work wall has changed a bit but nothing major as i completed everything on specific dates.

I wanted to make sure i was on top of everything as i was working alone so i was managing every aspect of my project. I concentrated on this because if i did not keep everything under control i have no one to help me get it back on track. This is why i kept everything simple and not too complicated so that i could keep track easily.

After speaking to my tutor i understood that i needed a contact sheet to keep track of my photos and this was to help me choose what photos were the best ones to edit. This was easier than i thought and was very helpful in choosing pictures that i wanted to edit.

I wanted to make sure i understood the camera properly before i took it out to shoot so i knew exactly how i wanted the pictures taken. I was very specific in the way i wanted my images to come out and i got the images that i liked.

The post production work flow was quite simple and i got all post production done within a set time frame. This was good as i made sure that i was not rushing around chasing myself trying to get everything done.

Planning (Pre-production) (AC: 3.1, 3.2)

Practical and Technical Problems (AC: 3.1)

The techniques i used to research my production was interviews, survey monkey and secondary research as i looked online for graffiti history. The survey and interviews went well and i got responses which was good as people were interested in my project. The only issue i had was trying to find articles relating to my project and making sure that they was not bias and one sided.

I had a few problems trying to save my work onto the computer as i had too much on my documents and so i had to delete some work from the previous year so i could put the work safely onto the computer.

Theoretical Problems (AC: 3.2)

The day i choose to take pictures the weather was nice as it was not raining or windy. it was sunny and bright. it was about 15/16 degrees so it was nice to be outside.

To get to my location i had to drive into London and then get the train from turnpike station into central London. This cost about ten pound to get the train about very little in petrol as it was a 10/15 minute drive to turnpike station.

The closest toilet from my location was within Waterloo station which was less than 5 minutes away as my location was under Waterloo station.

The production took about 3 days overall as i filmed on one day, edited within two and so it did not take very long for my production to be completed.

The health and safely of the location was simple as this was a public tunnel which the public use daily so the only risk was if it got too crowded and the equipment got broken or lost. The health risk of this location was dust, this location was based underground and so it got dusty and dirty fast so it was just the matter of making sure it is not too dusty so it is not breathed in.

From the very first idea that i came up with within my proposal my idea has changed a lot. I originally wanted to interview people and show their opinions within a video showing graffiti however this did not go as plan as that was basically just research. I filmed in London and Broxbourne for my final production and not in Harlow because i wanted to get out of the area that most people have already seen. This was different from original idea as i said i was going to film in Harlow. The video aspect of my idea did not happen in the end as after speaking to my tutor i found out that it was not good enough for me to get the grade i wanted to i made a visual project for the showcase. I choose some images from my final ones and printed them out to make then bigger and able to be seen from a distance. I also got quotes from the people i interviewed and cut them out onto paper. I also found some graffiti logos and made then stand out as well. I boarded all the pictures, logos and quotes to make them stand out and look professional. My idea has changed a lot from the original concept but i agree with my tutor that i needed to put more effort into my project to pass.

Final Diary Entry

My idea changed a lot from the original idea as instead of showing a video with graffiti and interviews included i changed it to a visual representation of the different opinions of graffiti.

For my research i could of improved it by actually making an effort within my research and not just doing simple research like survey monkey. I could have made this better by doing a group interview instead of four individual ones.

The audience actually liked my visual wall about graffiti as not many people know that graffiti can actually be art work that people are proud of.

The changes that i have to make before showtime is getting a slogan for my project. I wanted ' what is your opinion?' above my visual work. This was a good idea because it makes peoples think about their opinion on the debate about graffiti.

My work compares to industry standards because it is based on real life events as the debate about graffiti is still going on and that is it a major issue within society.

I was very good at dealing with management problems as i was the manager of my project. This was good for me as i like to work by myself because i can control what gets done on each day and it is how i want it done.

I only dealt with a few emotional problems throughout this project and that was because of my own family problems. On some days i was emotional and had a bit of an attitude so i was not in the mood to do work or co-operate with anyone. This was hard to control sometimes as i was not concentrating on college and it was affecting my work.

I think i met the brief as i made a visual representation about the debate on graffiti which was original and a unique idea. I also got all pre-production and post production done within a time limit and managed to show my work of completed within the showcase.
