The metaphor of recycling in the "Compost Kate Saves the Planet: The Infrastructure of Inclusion" video offers a nuanced perspective. Just as placing a recycling bin next to a trash can promotes better waste management habits, introducing appropriate support mechanisms alongside educational opportunities can transform inclusion from merely an option to a more accessible and sustainable choice. Shelly Moore also points out that individuals like Kate Campbell possess compassion and knowledge, enabling them to impact their community positively. Therefore, to achieve meaningful progress in fostering inclusion within educational settings, advocacy efforts should focus on increasing diversity and establishing a supportive infrastructure that makes inclusion both obvious and convenient.

The significance of inclusive infrastructure cannot be overstated. People naturally gravitate towards what is accessible, learnable, and participatory. Therefore, the presence of accommodating infrastructure, facilities, equipment, and environments is paramount in fostering inclusion.

We require more individuals akin to "Compost Kate" – individuals brimming with passion, knowledge, and unwavering determination – to champion and steer others towards embracing the inclusive mindset.

In the image, a diverse array of seating options is visible, ranging from traditional tables and chairs to sofas, couches, carpets, and even tents. These versatile setups are designed to cater to a wide range of children's needs, including physical comfort, sensory stimulation, attention span, and emotional well-being. As a result, children can more effectively concentrate on their studies and develop a stronger sense of belonging within this environment. As Shelly has taught us, when facilities are easily accessible, we can achieve our goals more effectively.

--In some malls or shopping centers, there are electric shopping carts designed for people with disabilities. Having this equipment can attract more consumers with disabilities to the mall. However, without this device, consumers with disabilities may choose not to shop here.

--Accessible parking spaces in parking lots serve as a positive example of inclusion infrastructure. These spaces are typically larger and strategically located, making it more convenient for individuals with disabilities to park and reducing unnecessary barriers. This encourages people with disabilities to travel, thereby facilitating their greater integration into community life.

--I am not particularly fond of Canadian movie theaters because they often lack subtitles, which can pose difficulties for deaf individuals or non-native English speakers when watching movies. Adding subtitles would greatly enhance inclusion and make the movie-watching experience more accessible to a broader audience.

During my kindergarten years, there was a staff member with Down syndrome at my kindergarten. She was responsible for assisting the kindergarten teachers with some simple tasks. Our kindergarten director at the time, someone like "Compost Kate," consistently advocated for this employee with Down syndrome to work at the kindergarten. She provided ongoing guidance and made sure other staff and children saw the achievements and efforts of this "special" staff member. She also encouraged the children to help this staff member. Under her influence, both we and this "special" staff member had a delightful time together.

Shelley Moore's video reminded me of Taiwanese education's challenges, particularly the issue of one teacher being tasked with managing 30 special-needs students without adequate support. One of Taiwan's senators, who has a background in education, has emphasized the need for stronger advocacy for policy changes to address this issue. Despite good intentions, current policies often hinder true inclusion and must be reevaluated. Continuing education on inclusion is also vital for fostering a culture of diversity within educational organizations.
Furthermore, the importance of community engagement in shaping inclusive policies cannot be overstated. Public forums and consultations are essential for understanding the diverse needs of the student population. In short, addressing the pressing challenges of special needs education in Taiwan requires a multi-pronged approach that involves revising outdated policies and cultivating a culture of inclusion and perseverance. Engaging the community and learning from insightful educational commentators like Shelley Moore is crucial for achieving these goals.
