1. Has low social status.
2. Always following, thinking about  Amir, and don't refuse Amir's requests (obedient).
3. Has never been educated. 

Evidence 1: "A face like a Chinese doll chiseled from hardwood: his flat broad nose and slanting, narrow eyes like bamboo leaves..."

"And the cleft lip, just left of midline, where the Chinese doll maker's instrument may have slipped..."

Evidence 2: "And, under the same roof, we spoke our first words. Mine was Baba. His was Amir. My name."

Evidence 3: "What does he know, that illiterate Hazara?"

Baba:
1. High social status.
2. Strict dad to Amir, and want him to be a strong man in the future.
3. Never let anyones to advice or stop him to accomplish his goals (self-assertive). 

Evidence 1: "In the late 1960s, when I was five or six, Baba decided to build an orphanage."

"When Baba ended his speech, people stood up and cheered."

Evidence 2: "Real men didn't read poetry - and God forbid they should ever write it." "Real men - real. boys - played soccer..."

"A boy who won't stand up for himself becomes a man who can't stand up to anything."

Evidence 3: :"Of course, Baba refused, and everyone shook their heads in dismay at his obstinate ways. Then Baba succeeded and every shook their heads in awe at his triumphant ways."

Similarities: They are both thinking about Amir in many ways. Baba wants Amir to be a real man, and Hassan wants to be a loyal friend of Amir. 


Difference: The ethnic group where they located are the biggest  difference because Baba despise Hazara. He thinks that Pashtun and Hazara are totally different.

Evidence: Page 25 "I never thought of Hassan and me as friends either." "In the end, I was a Pashtun and he was a Hazara, I was sunni and he was Shi'a, and nothing was ever going to change that."

Also, the way for thinking Amir is different. Hassan never refused Amir's requests and listen to him carefully but Baba is a strict dad to Amir and want him to overcome himself. 

Evidence: Page 11 "Mine was Baba. His was Amir. My name."

1. He has a stubborn personality

2. Baba is a superb man
(Evidence: "When Baba ended his speech, people stood up and cheered. They clapped for a long time." / "I was so proud of Baba, of us.")

3. Baba is a self-centered person
(Evidence: "Children aren't coloring books. You don't get to fill them with your favorite colors." / "You just need to let him find his way.")

[Amir]
1. Tend to think of the other person easily
(Evidence: What does he know, that illiterate Hazara? He'll never be anything but a cook. How dare he criticize you?") - Chapter 4, p.34

2. He is wicked and immature person.
(Evidence: "Sometimes, up in those trees, I talked to Hassan into firing walnuts with his slingshot at the neighbor's one-eyed German shepherd.")

3. He is a talented person
(Evidence: "God has granted you a special talent." / "But the most impressive thing about your story is that it has irony. It is something that some writers reach for their entire careers and never attain. You have achieved it with your first story.") - Chapter 4, p. 32,33


- Common features between the 2 characters:
1. They are tremendous people.
This is because Amir has a special talent for writing and baba is highly regarded by people. Also, he is very rich.
2. They are Pashtun.
This is because Baba and Amir are family. (Baba - dad, Amir - son)

- What is their primary difference: 
I think the main difference between Baba and Amir is their attitude. 2. Want Amir to be even better than now. 
Evidence: "Someday , inshallah, you will be a great writer, and people all over the world will read your stories..... You will be great and famous.....He weighed his words and clear his throat. But will you permit me to ask a question about the story? -Chapter 4 page 33-34"
3. Relies on Amir
Evidence: "Hassan next to me, croaking. Tears were sliding down his cheeks..... He rested his head on my shoulder. Chapter 2 page 6"

Baba:
1. Feel shamed about Amir
Evidence: "I know I know. But he's always buried in those books or shuffling around the house like he's lost in some dreams. Chapter 3 page 21
2. Self centered
Evidence: "I wasn't like that at all, and neither were any of the kids I grew up with." "You know, sometimes you are the most self-centered man I know." Chapter 3 page 22
3. Want Amir to be like him
Evidence: "Real man didn't read poetry-----and god forbid they should ever write it! Real men----real boys----played soccer just as Baba had when he had been young........He signed me up for soccer teams to stir the same passion in me. Chapter 3 page 20

Similarity: Hassan and Baba all some how loves Amir. Baba as amir's father definitely love Amir, but still felt shamed about what Amir's interests are. Hassan love Amir in a best friend way, they grew up together, and Amir will read books to Hassan, do pranks together.

Difference: Hassan doesn't feel ashamed on what Amir likes and encourage him to write more. Baba felt the boys shouldn't be reading books and poetry all the time, real boys should be playing soccer and do exercise outside.
 Baba is self centered that he thinks Amir is his son, so that Amir should be exactly like him. One of the evidence that we can find is, Amir’s first word was Baba, usually it shows the first name the baby said is the most important people in their life. “mine was Baba. His was Amir. My name” (chapter 2, page 11). 
o  Amir and his father Baba were not good relationship, Amir was in orphanage and he does not grow with father. When his father gave him his hate, he was really happy because in this (that he get Baba’s hat) way everyone can know that Baba, he his father. “I was glad to, because then everyone would see that he was my father, my Baba” (chapter 3, pages 14-15) 
o Amir all the time felt that his father (Baba) not proud of him and he all the time tell him how he wins with his group and Baba does not care. "I told Baba about it later that night, but he just nodded, muttered, 'good'" (chapter 3, page 19)
