Thanksgiving is often viewed as a celebration of the coming to America from Europe, however this does not capture both sides of the event. Although the Europeans had discovered the New World, they took a home away from the Native Americans who lived there first. This has evolved over time into a present-day holiday where we celebrate with food and family, the exact things that were taken from those who lived here first.

Thanksgiving is a joined compromise between native American and pilgrims having a feast to show there graduated for one another.

For my understanding thanksgiving is enjoyed with family and friends. The feast is enjoyed with a nice big turkey and i don't believe everyone know the relative truth towards what happen in thanksgiving and why we celebrate it

well Thanksgiving was about bringing two groups together(pilgrims and the Indians) and making peace back in the day. so when they came together they brought food from both sides and had a conversation about their issues with each other

Thanksgiving was originally a time of thanks for the success of the first corn harvest of the pilgrims, I'm also pretty sure it had some dark underlying theme, but I don't remember what that was. We now celebrate thanksgiving as a time to gather with friends and family, celebrating our gratitude for one another. I think what this shows us about our understanding of American history is that we like to paint ourselves as the heroes, only teaching people the history we want them to know and leaving the truth of our history buried.

I believe the history of thanksgiving is complicated and people tend to forget the real history behind it. Thanksgiving was barely celebrated in my family, but we did enjoy it, spending time with family and eating with them was always lovely. My father was never quiet about the truth behind the massacre and genocide of the native americans during this time, being that we are indigenous, and i was never shy about speaking up at school when it came around the time of Thanksgiving, telling my teachers at a young age that Christopher Columbus wasn’t “friendly” with the natives, he butchered and raped. I don’t have very positive feelings about Thanksgiving, but I know my family likes to be together around this time.

Our community views thanksgiving as a time to bring family together and enjoy a feast of food together while the history is not celebrated as deeply as thanksgiving is due to the greedy and selfishness in not caring to further our education on holidays such as this. Some Americans often believe it was a compromise between the Americans and pilgrims.
