         <description><![CDATA[<div>A major power on the border between the Mayan lowlands and highlands. It had many great temples and plazas.&nbsp;Priests lead religious ceremonies and the top of temples. Flat terraces made the land more usable for farming, temples were shaped like mountains which were sacred because they could then approach the gods.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tikal battles for power between itself and Calakmul. Both cities wanted power of the smaller cities between them. This power shifted between the two cities for years. It is one of the grandest cities in Mesoamerica. It has built its wealth by exploring natural resources and geographical locations. This lead to it becoming a Maya superpower. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>At the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. It flourished between c 750 and 1200 CE. It was one of the great Mesoamerican cities that remains today as a very popular tourist city. The name 'Chichen Itza' more than likely comes from a big sinkhole that is known as the 'Sacred Cenote'. It was also called 'mouth of the  well of the Itza'. The Maya threw offerings of jade and gold.</div>]]></description>
