This is like the owner because they keep track of the yard and know what to do and what it is like.

A fence in a backyard is similar to the cell membrane/wall. It both protects and keeps track of what goes in and out. In a cell, it protects the cell from harmful things and it also regulates what goes in and out of the cell. A fence in a backyard is similar to this because it can have a gate that locks to protect and it can also keep things out.

This is like a storage area in a backyard that stores and organizes toys and tools for the owners. Ribosomes in a cell help assemble and make proteins that the cell uses. This is like a gardener because they give and help make things for the backyard to grow and be healthy.

The ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum) is like a bumble bee. The ER is known for transporting materials which are mostly proteins. It can have two parts, a smooth ER and a rough ER. The ER would be rough if it has ribosomes attached. The ER would be smooth when it doesn’t have ribosomes attached. This is similar to a bumble bee because they transport materials which are mostly pollen, and they can either have pollen on them or not, which is like the rough and smooth ER.

Lysosomes are often referred to as “trash collectors.” This is because they break down old organelles and trash from the cell.
