"The fact is, there is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn't the family. If you don't have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family, you don't have much at all," (Albom, 91).

My family is the very most important thing to me. They are the ones that are always there for me no matter what and continue to teach me and lift me up everyday. They had taught me to look on the bright side of things, and that family should always stick together, and that is exactly what my family does with each other. I couldn't have asked for a more supportive, loving, nurturing, caring, uplifting family than the family I have. As Morrie says, you don't have much at all without the love and support of your family.

After reading the book I learned that a lot of Morrie's wisdom as described in the novel reflects a lot about my life. For example, when Morrie is teaching Mitch about the important things in life, that really stuck out to me because it made me realize that we take what we already have for granted. This relates a lot to my life because I am always telling others that there is more to life than they really think and that the material things is not the only thing that matters in life. Another thing that Morries wisdom taught me is that money is not everything which is another thing that I had learned through life, again, there is so much more to look forward to in life than the materialistic things, there are always things that matter like family, love, friends, etc. Morrie has taught me to never care about things and instead care about the people around me.

Improving with Morrie

A major part that I took away from the book was about loving yourself before you can love others and forgiveness. Self-love is something that I had always struggled with especially as I got older and I realized that I also could never get over anything because I struggled to forgive the proper way. I believe that everybody had experienced something similar, but after reading the novel, Morrie taught me to always love myself before loving others. This meant a lot to me and made me want to improve upon this going forward in life. And what he says about forgiving yourself is the only way to forgive others has given me a new outlook on what I should be doing in life when I am faced with a problem that I need to forgive somebody about.

This group of people, my golf team, gives me a purpose and meaning to play golf. As a team, we are always lifting each other up when we are down and no matter what we are always there to support each other through thick and thin. This group of girls is truly like a second family to me and I honestly do not know what I would do without this team. They have given me a reason to continue playing after a bad round and no matter what we are always proud of each other's accomplishments. Everyday, I am so thankful for this loving, supportive, and fun team for giving me a reason to continue playing the sport I love.

My friends are some of the most important people in my life. And I truly wouldn't know what to do without them. They are such amazing individual people that are full of talent and I know they are going to do amazing things after we graduate. It has been a blessing to form these amazing friendships with all of these gorgeous girls and I'm thankful for them everyday. As a group, we all lift each other up, support one another, and help each other when necessary. This is the best group of people I have ever been friends with and I would never ask for it another way.

"This is part of what a family is about not just love, but letting others know there's someone who is watching out for them.. Nothing else will give you that. Not money. Not fame." (Albom, 92).

Even though I have talked a lot on here about support, there is no bigger supporter than my dad. He had helped me so much both in life and in golf, and I have learned so much from him. I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have my father. And no matter what he is watching out for me and always pushing me to get better, he has never given up on me even if I had given up on myself. He claims he is my #1 fan but truly he is just my #1 supporter, and nobody could take his place.

Trusting people is something I have always struggled with, but Lauryn is the type of friend that I would trust with my life. She really has helped me through all of my ups and downs and she always will be. Lauryn has taught me to love and to trust others no matter what and I am thankful everyday for her because of it. Even though we've only been friends for 2 years now, we have both seen each other's high and low points in life now, she is one of my closest friends.

"These were people so hungry for love that they were accepting substitutes. They were embracing material things and expecting a sort of hug back. But it never works. You can't substitute material things for love or for gentleness or for tenderness or for a sense of comradeship." (Albom, 125).

This quote reminds me a lot about my mother. Me and her have a bond that nobody could break, the type of bond that I am so thankful for everyday. There isn't a day that goes by where I'm not thankful for my mother, she has taught me everything I know, helps me even when times get tough, and is truly my best friend. She is my biggest supporter in everything that I do and nothing in this world could replace that. Even though I don't say it enough, I love my mother so much.

This relates to me and my brother, who is my very first best friend and always will me. My brother, Alec and never used to be as close as we are. But as of recently I don't know what I would do if I didn't have Alec in my life. He is the funniest, most caring, and most genuine person that I have ever met and I am so glad that we have become so much closer in recent years. He truly keeps me going every day, and I cant help but think how much I will miss him when I leave for college.
