Art right now in Syria is about how to commemorate the beauty of a once beautiful country or how to express the grief of searing images— their houses destroyed, their neighbors and countrymen unburied in the streets. Many of the paintings explore the role of media the conflict to the outside world— how the conflict is being framed and packaged to people, what is being highlighted and what isn’t. This artwork is a copy from the original photo, from which a boy was found dead. He and his family were going to a nieghboring country to flee the war in Syria, when he was drowned and found dead on shore. When this original picture was posted, it went viral. There was a big breakout of outrage. People were furious that little kids like this have died from Syria’s civil war.
