Originally planned for August 26 but moved to September 1. Germany with their leader Hitler had wanted to invade Poland and Hitler's demands and actions were in defiance of the non-aggression treaty that Hitler signed with Poland in 1934. With the guarantee of British support to Poland, Hitler delayed commencement of his invasion.

Italy was acting with unjustified aggression towards Abyssinia and the League of Nations condemned Italy's actions, but Britain and France were hesitant to support Abyssinia since they saw Italy as a vital ally against Germany, and as a big threat for war.

Later on, Italy joined the pact as well, causing concern in other countries since 3 aggressive dictatorships united under this pact. These 3 countries were very strictly against communism, thus the name Anti-Comintern pact.
