Does Taoism have an idea of Hell or anything similar?

Hell is an idea that is absent in the beliefs of many Taoists. Tao translates to "The Way," and focuses on harmony rather than hell. Health and immortality is emphasized rather than a punishment of sins.

Some Taoists believe afterlife does not exist as it is in life that Taoists are eternal: "We are of the Tao when living and upon death are the Tao again." More traditional Taoists believe in concepts of "earthly paradises" where everyone is immortal, and everyone lives in harmony.

Main Tenets of Taoism

1. One of Taoism's main focuses is nature. Meaning and energy are what causes reality to unfold, not divine figures.
2. Act in harmony with nature.
3. Taoism also does not describe human salvation from a certain being (i.e. God).
4. Taoists focus on human knowledge and relativity: human knowledge is partial, therefore it merely accounts to different viewpoints rather than one truth. Since the universe is constantly evolving, so does knowledge.
5. Since one truth is NOT a tenet of Taoism, when you die, there is a discovery of so many truths.
6. Naturalism - letting hair grow as long as possible, refusing to talk, expressing oneself by whistling.
7. Chuang-Tzu: "Since life and death are each other’s companions, why worry about them? All beings are one.”
8. Yin and Yang's force created the ball of sediment which we call Earth.
9. A life of simplicity, a.k.a going with the flow, is stressed in Taoism.
10. Seek inner peace via optimism, passivity, and an overall state of being calm.
11. One must be humble and actively work to make the world a better place.
