Ambitious
"Just tell me where you want to go to school and you'll go. Just tell me, what it is you what to be- and you'll be it... Whatever you want to be...-Yessir! You just name it son... and I hand you the world!" (pg 108)
This quote shows that Walter is ambitious because he knows that because he wants to get something achieved he's going to try everything in his power to do so. In this quote Walter is pretty much saying that although he can't get what he may want to get done right now, he is going to make sure that he does get it done because it's what he wants. At first Walter wanted to open a liquor store but he couldn't so when he got the opportunity and got the money in his hands he went ahead and did it. The money he might've done it with wasn't his, but he still tried to achieve what he wanted to although he may have not succeeded.

Honest

“Because, it is life, Mama!” Mama: “Oh—so now its life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom use to be life—now its money. I guess the world really do change…” Walter: “No—it was always money, Mama. We just didn’t know about it.” p. 74
This shows that Walter is honest because he's just saying what the truth is. Technically the world is money. Without money you wouldn't have anything you have. Walter was also honest when he said that in the world you're only going to succeed if you're either smart or rich. It may sound brutal but that was Walters truth.

Although that Walter doesn't always achieve what he wants to I feel as though that he's a very ambitious person. Walter is ambitious because no matter what his situation was he never gave up. Walter knew that he most likely wasn't getting the money to open his liquor store, so when he got the opportunity to try he did. Walter may have not succeeded but he still tried. He did everything in his power to at least try to have his own liquor store even though it wasn't his money to do it with.

This relates to Walter because he could have let go of his ambition but he never did. In the picture it's a girl letting go of a balloon. I see this as letting go of whatever you feel as though is "in your way" of achieving what you want to achieve. Letting go of any weight that is puling you down. You would have to let go of that weight because you can't move if something is forcing you right back down again.

The misfortune and pain of not having money or of not having enough rooms in his house. The fourth and fifth line where it says to believe in yourself meaning believe that you can get out of the situation that you're in eventually. Eventually you will get into a house that is big enough and you won't have to deal with the struggle anymore. The last two lines are saying now stride to succeed and work as hard as you can and that is where the money will start to come along with it.

This song relates to Walter because this song is about overcoming the hard things in your life and believing in yourself when no one else did. Walters entire family told him that he wasn't going to be able to open the liquor store and get the liquor license. Although his family was right that still didn't stop him. Another thing that Walter had to deal with was the prejudice people in the neighborhood that he and his family decided to move into. The people in the neighborhood were offering the family money for them to leave the neighborhood. That never stopped Walter or his family from moving in to where they know that they had a right to be.

Post 8- Theme with a quote

Money doesn't define who somebody is.

“Lena—I’ll work…I’ll work twenty hours a day in all the kitchens in Chicago…I’ll strap my baby on my back if I have to and scrub all the floors in America and wash all the sheets in America if I have to—but we got to MOVE! We got to get OUT OF HERE!!” P. 140
This quote shows that money doesn't define who somebody is because despite her to having money Ruth still said that she was going to love and take care of her child. Although she barely had the money to take care of herself she still was going to love and take care of her baby. Instead of getting an abortion or giving it up for adoption she didn't not care what anyone in her family had to say. A lot of people think that people who don't have money are "bad people" just because they don't necessarily get any fancy things that people with money can get. Just a person doesn't have as much money as you the you should't see them as any less of a person.
