The voiceover at the beginning hooks the viewer, and we are then continuously captivated by the reactions of the interviewer and Jewel Palovak's expressions. This emotion is further intensified when the interviewer can no longer listen.

The continuous shot makes us feel as if we are there. Although we can't hear the audio, the expressions are so emotive that we want to know what will happen next. 

There is a voiceover that informs the viewer about what they are about to watch. The voice is somber, which helps set the tone. The sudden cut to them holding hands conveys support and solidarity, providing a relieving visual contrast to the sadness given from listening to the audio.

There is no music as the interviewer listens to the audio of Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard's attack. The absence of audio not only respects the privacy of the victims but also emphasizes the gravity of the attack and establishes an emotional atmosphere without subjecting the viewer to distressing sounds.

Observational

The real footage of before the event is used, as well as the sound within it. The cutaways used build the narrative whilst cutting back to the interviews. The tone changes slowly throughout to become more sinister. The clips and voiceover used foreshadows the following events to the audience which builds tension. Lots of different perspectives are given due to the number of interviews used. 

The beginning for the scene is more upbeat. It shows footage of the trainer and whale doing tricks. The trainer is smiling up until the point before the tone changes and the narrative moves on to documenting her death. 

The pacing of the edit is fast with quick cuts between the interviews and the footage. The use of real footage gives a reality to the situation. As well as this the footage is very unstable and shaky, creating a disconcerting feel. 

There is no music or sound effects used. This makes the viewer feel more tense as there is no distraction from the footage and no indicator of what’s about to happen. This makes the audience feel apprehensive.

In the clip how is the documentary building the viewers interest through the edit?

The music helps to create tension, when it is needed, in the viewer as it is fast paced. The images used are all disorientating as many are canted or taken from below.

In the clip are there any editing techniques used? How are they effective?

There are lots of cutaways used in the edit showing Philippe on the wire. There are no other, obvious techniques used however the edit is still engaging.

Biographical

The scene contained interviews, performances, animation, graphics. 

There is no linear structure to the scene, which is unusual for a documentary. This will connect to the audience as it’s different and reflect the personality of the band.

It is very fast paced and erratic which reflects on the artists. The aspect ratio changes throughout from 4:3 and 16:9 to give some clips a more dated look. The cut aways are quite jarring and there’s not real narrative in them.

Their own song is used in the background.

Expository

The documentary contains a voiceover of David Attenborough introducing the animal. However, he is not describing what the otter is doing in the footage. This makes the audience interested in why the animal is doing what its doing. 

Its slow paced to allow the audience to properly see what’s happening. There are not many techniques used as to not take away from the footage as it is already interesting enough.

The music is calming and upbeat, reflecting the temperament of the otter.
