Gardaí say two young children who were reported missing from their home in Limerick for more than a week have been found safe and well. It hasn't been published where they were found.

Karen Moroney, from Newcastle West, got the surprise of her life on Saturday when she collected a birthday cake for her daughter. When she ordered a Peppa Pig themed birthday cake the bakery asked her for a picture on a USB stick. Karen handed in a USB which had the picture she was looking for on it. Someone misread the order and printed a picture of an USB stick instead of the requested picture. When Karen purchased the final product the cashier said their had been a slight mess-up but it had been fixed. When she opened the cake in her car she said she noticed the picture had been placed over another. She peeled off the Peppa Pig picture and burst out laughing when she seen the original picture of an USB. Karen stated that it was the funniest thing she had ever seen.   The story, which has appeared on national television and in the UK , started when Karen sent a picture of the error to her sister in New York, who then put it on Facebook and it just spread from there. “My grandmother called me to say it was on TV and my aunt said it was on the radio,” she added.
Karen said her daughter still had a great birthday and the cake tasted “fab.”

celebrated her 100th birthday with her five sons, four daughters, extended family and large circle of friends in St Anthony’s Nursing Home, Pallasgreen. 

 

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after a fall near Glin pier yesterday afternoon.The woman, understood to be middle aged, was walking in the area and slipped on moss, suffering a broken hip, it's understood.

The community of Foynes is  devastation in Foynes this Saturday after the village’s historic flying boat museum was “destroyed” by flooding.

A father has told how he and his wife only had their newborn baby daughter for 42 hours and 27 minutes before she died when her heart was pierced as she underwent a surgery.

Cóilín Ó Scolaí and Irene Kavanagh said they have been left "shattered and broken" following the death of baby Laoise who, along with her twin brother Cuán, was born premature at 28 weeks on January 22, 2015, at Dublin's Coombe Hospital. 

A number of schools in Limerick have been targeted by thieves, gardaí have warned people to be aware. Gardai in Limerick are warning schools to “consider their security arrangements” after four schools across the city and county were targeted in separate incidents.
Some of the schools that were broken into are  Caherline National School in Caherconlish and  Colaiste Mhuire secondary school in Askeaton.

The Queen of England' s wedding anniversary is today. It will be 70 years since their marriage at Westminster Abbey. The church's bells will ring for more than three hours to mark the occasion.   The couple will celebrate at a private dinner in Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth is the first British leader to celebrate a platinum wedding anniversary. 

It is the famous singer and guitarist Joe Walsh's 70th birthday today. Happy Birthday.

 

Dog people have just won a solid point in the "dog vs cat" debate.

A new study recently published in Scientific Reports suggests that owning a dog will add years to your life.

 

The submarine, with 44 crew on board, disappeared 430km 270 miles off the Argentine coast.

Sean McGrotty, 49, his two sons Mark, 12 and Evan, 8, his partner’s mother, Ruth Daniels, 59, and her daughter, Jodie-Lee Treacy, who was 14, died when their car, an Audi Q9, slid off the slipway and into Lough Swilly on Sunday the 20 of March 2016.

Earlier this evening, two housing estates were evacuated by emergency services and more than 100 homes have been significantly damaged by the floods.
Hundreds of residents from the town are staying in hotels in Portlaoise.


A woman who provides round-the-clock care for both her parents has been named Ireland's Carer of the Year.

Paula Robinson from Co Cavan has been looking after her 84-year-old mother, who has Alzheimer's disease, and her 92-year-old father, who is living with bowel cancer and has dementia.
Ms Robinson was among 30 carers who were recognised today.  She sleeps in the room with her mother to ensure her safety and hand feeds her every meal.

Among those who also received awards today is ten-year-old Jack Cooney from Clonmel, Co Tipperary.He helps to care for his 16-year-old brother James. 
There are over 350 thousand carers across the country, which represents one in 20 people in Ireland.
