PRS for music distributes license fees fo the use of musical compositions and lyrics on behalf of songwriters, composers and publishers. This ensures that the people who create music are fairly rewarded for their talent and work.
In radio it is essential that you posses a PRS license if you plan on using copyrighted music in any of these outlets:
  • Commercial radio 
  • Community radio
  • Hospital radio
  • Long-term radio (student campus, army base or prison)
  • Short-term radio that is OFCOM-licensed
  • Radio adverts.
The Performing Rights Society also supply licenses for independent radio production companies.
If you're using royalty free music then you don't need a PRS license.
Why do I need one?
Maintaining a PRS license means I can broadcast copyrighted music without any worries, with due consent.
If I did not get a PRS license and broadcasted copyrighted music then I would be violating copyright laws, this would lead to legal fees and court orders.
I will be using copyrighted music throughout my shows, which means i will beed to obtain a PRS license.

They indicate what to do if an unplanned event occurs. They can be as simple as formalising and recording the thought processes when you ask '"what if...?"and decide which options you would follow if the "what if?" situation happened.
Some steps to follow To produce a good contingency plan are:
  • Note where extra resources might be obtained in an emergency and be aware of the points in your plan where this might be required.
  • Identify in advance those dates, which is missed, will seriously affect your plans, e.g. date of recording, inform and make sure everyone who is involved in the recording to note down and make a reminder.
  • Keep all those involved (including yourself) well informed and up-to-date on progress so that problems can be addressed before they cause too much disruption.
  • Recognise the key points in your plan where there are alternative courses of action and think through the possible scenarios for each one.
For my contingency plan I have booked out a second studio and hired a studio engineer in case any problems occur with the equipment.
I have another interviewee on hold in case my original interviewee can not make it on the date of recording, falls ill or withdraws from the project. I have also uploaded extra backup clips to a hard drive incase my original files get lost.
As an extra precaution I have hired a secondary presenter as like for my interviewee they could fall ill or pull out of the recording.

For this task I only used the BBC website to to find information. The BBC are a reliable source as they only post valid research that has been checked thoroughly.
All the information i have included in this task has been found online and checked.

Primary research
I have been objective in my primary research. When i originally conducted my first meeting with my interviewee, I wrote down all the songs my interviewee wanted to include in the radio show. After she told me the songs she wanted to include, I conducted research about them and found out more information (when they were released, what genre they were and if they were in the charts). I also listened to all the songs to get more of a feel for them and connect to the interviewee more. I also did this research so when it came down to the actual interview I was more clued up about the songs and knew what I was talking about.
I also took into consideration her feelings and made sure all the personal information she told me was okay to include in the show, and if not then I would remove it.
I will not influence any of the opinions she puts across, as if i did this then I would be bias and i want my interviewee to feel as comfortable as possible.

Song research
