• Questions kept open-ended & would try to get client to elaborate when more details were necessary

  • Asked about how they manage the child’s tantrum, what triggered the meltdown etc.

• Good listening skills - eye-contact, repeats what client has said

• Would provide good suggestions that were related to what client said

• Asking about past strategies used 

• Paraphrasing → helps the client feel heard 

What could be improved:

• Could maybe get other details regarding child too - for e.g. what does the child do when she has a tantrum? How often do these meltdowns occur?

• Goal - could clarify if mommy is keen on that goal (what was said: “so maybe this is something we can work on”)

• Could also consider about the child when thinking of managing the situation
