This is a great opportunity for those looking to impact change in their community, refine their activist efforts, strengthen democracy in the United States, and meet other like-minded young people! Interns will collaborate on a variety of tasks, communicate regularly, and meet virtually on a weekly basis. This is a collaborative internship where interns will develop their democratic competency. Interns participate in civic actions, organize voter registration and turnout projects in their communities, perform targeted outreach, engage in advocacy and activism, find and participate in volunteer opportunities together, attend the TurnUp Speaker Series, as well as do civic and activism related research and writing. Most importantly, they will work together to advocate for issues important to young people, fight voter suppression and boost youth voter turnout in the United States. Upon completion, interns are prepared to go forward being civically responsible and engaged activists.

What are Summer Programs?

Girls Who Code Summer Programs include our two-week Summer Immersion Program, where you’ll dive into game

design with corporate partners in live virtual classrooms, and our flexible six-week experience called Pathways to explore trending tech topics independently.

Who can participate?

Summer Programs are open to all high school girls and non-binary students, including graduating seniors and

past participants.

Girls Who Code Summer Programs take place at different times over the summer, so you can choose the option that

The Summer Immersion Program takes place in live, virtual classrooms on Zoom. Pathways participants complete

coursework online at their own pace. Both include virtual advising sessions, Student Hours, and Partner Events.

Is there a cost to participate?

No, Summer Programs are entirely free.

Bridgewater’s Future Scholars Institute is a grant-funded, two-week residential program that allows local rising high school juniors and seniors to experience college life firsthand by living and studying on campus. The centerpiece of the program is a discussion-based college seminar class entitled “Individual Freedom and the Public Good.” Throughout the program, participants will carefully and critically read complex materials, engage in discussions and debates, and present their ideas through writing and classroom discussions. At the completion of the program, students will earn 2 college credits!

The Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District will sponsor up to two students to attend 2025 Youth Conservation Camp. You must show a passion and commitment to environmental conservation!

What: The program brings together about 70 interested students for a week of learning about Virginia’s natural resources from conservation professionals and faculty from Virginia Tech. Most of the instruction is hands-on and outdoors.

The Virginia Department of Forestry, in cooperation with other natural resource conservation agencies and organizations, has proudly administered Camp Woods and Wildlife (formerly called Holiday Lake Forestry Camp) for more than 70 years. Camp Woods and Wildlife is an academic, structured, residential camp that focuses on field experiences in forestry and other natural resources. This unique camping experience introduces 13-16-year-olds to the challenges, special skills, and knowledge needed for managing the forest resources we use and enjoy every day.

What is TurnUp?: TurnUP Activism is a progressive non-profit organization dedicated to making the world more just, fair, and equitable for all by increasing youth activism and civic engagement to strengthen our democracy.

The internship: Interns work in remote teams of mission driven young people from all around the country to help amplify youth civic engagement and participate in activism on many progressive/social justice issues including climate change, racial justice, reproductive rights, ending gun violence, and combating voter suppression.

Internship structure:

• Introduction to Search and Seizure: Tuesday, July 8th and Wednesday, July 9th

These classes will be led by distinguished instructors from William & Mary Law School. Chancellor Professor Fred Lederer, who serves as the director of CLCT, will teach both sessions of Introduction to Law and Introduction to Search & Seizure. Meanwhile, Daniel Shin, a Cybersecurity Researcher at William & Mary Law School and Assistant Director of Research at CLCT, will instruct the Introduction to AI course.

What: Camp L.I.T 2025 is the sixth annual girl's summer day camp through the Harrisonburg Fire Department. L.I.T stands for Leadership, Integrity, and Trailblazer. The camp will provide a unique insight into life as a first responder. Camp participants will take part in this five-day long day camp that will include many new experiences, including physical training, fire simulations, and many hands-on activities.
