"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." - Mahatma Gandhi

Everything about the human body and condition fascinates me and I am so excited to become a part of the health care team at this specific point in time where modern scientific breakthroughs allow for unprecedented new techniques, strategies, and cures.

There are many things that I love about nursing: being able to care for people while they are at their most vulnerable is humbling, being able to affect change in the patient’s condition is empowering, and being able to work with many different people of all walks of life is inspiring. Gauging the effectiveness of my work as it becomes evident in the patient’s condition ensures continuous active engagement and refinement of nursing techniques. Additionally, ongoing evaluations of the effectiveness of my interventions as well as self reflections of my skills and professionalism synergistically help facilitate a commitment to lifelong learning. However, all things considered, the best and my most favorite aspect of nursing is the submission of personal ego for sake of another person. I love that switch that happens the moment that I step on the clinical floor where the patient(s) becomes my top and only priority. Being in a position where another person’s condition, state, and feelings are, a priori, more important than my own is incredibly refreshing.

I know that I will be a good nurse, but I want to be more than that. I want to be the nurse who makes change in my community; one who improves the life of my patients through quality, compassionate, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered care. I uphold and will continue to uphold the core values of a professional nurse as established by the National League for Nursing. A good nurse is essentially safe, caring, holistic, accepting of diversity, with a sense of integrity and committed to developing excellence. A great nurse is more than that. A great nurse empathetic, compassionate, and a courageous advocate. A great nurse is selfless and always willing to do just a little bit more. A great nurse has technologically savvy and with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. And above all else, a great nurse is self aware with a high degree of emotional intelligence and a strong sense of purpose.
