This ended up causing me to hate the project I was working on every day. It was an extremely frustrating process throughout the entire time of my first sculpture attempt. I do enjoy a challenge, which is why, I made it hard for myself in the first place. But every day I worked on it, every day I would gain a little bit more hate for it. Until one day, it broke in a fixable way, but I was genuinely glad to see it broken. This made me realize I had two options. I could put extra work into the thing I hate or build the thing I actually enjoy. I would have done this in the first place, but the design I had in mind was too simple. It is a ladder that stands alone, and goes to nothing. I genuinely couldn’t tell you why it pleases me so much but it really does. I think because a job well done gives me some satisfaction. Or maybe I just like ladders, who knows? It’s not nearly as complicated but somehow it looks 10 times cooler than the previous attempt. Overall, I learned beauty comes in all forms because it may not be perfect or pretty to look at but that ladder is a beautiful thing.

I have never done anything with paper-mache, or even anything similar to it. Even while asking questions and following examples I struggled my way all the way to the end. Though I will say the challenging projects are the most fun. This was just as fun if not more fun than any of the clay projects we’ve done so far. This is quite possibly my favorite project with done so far just because of how different it was to anything else I’ve done. It’s also one of my favorites because the beginning looks nothing like the finished product in any way. I can honestly say I have zero faith that this would come out good and I would like it in the end. Now I’m clearing out picture frames on the wall to make space for this beautiful monstrosity I’ve created.
