For example, when the audience first see's 'Dirty' Harry Callahan, we are not too sure how this character acts, but simply because of marketing and Clint Eastwood typically being typecast, we may believe (which is later proven) that he's a no nonsense, tough guy. As we are focusing on the opening to a film, most 70's style cop movies and shows typically start off showing the crime itself happening, and the main character(s) spend the rest of the film trying to solve the case the audience already saw happen. Examples of this include pretty much every episode of Columbo, Dirty Harry and Bullitt. In the case of Columbo, the initial crime committed is focused on with detail, which would likely be difficult to replicate with no dialogue. In the case of Dirty Harry, (aside from the strange opening part which looks at the names of a bunch of San Francisco officers), starts off showing the murder exclusively, with no dialogue or extra detail. After that, the rest of the opening is just showing the titular character investigating the crime scene, still with a small amount of dialogue. When you see the sky in these movies, it tends to be a bright, colourful blue (like the one in the background) rather than a fairly dimmer and more grey sky like those in the UK on a typical day (sunny blue skies are a bit rarer compared to those in the US.
