-He is found stranded on the planet mars, having to cope with the unearthly conditions. He developed his own way to work and became a self relying man until he could be rescued or returned. His isolation from any human life was an aid in this.

-Like Emerson describes in his essay "The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do." Showing how this isolation showed what he really has capabilities of.

The song clearly shows some transcendental thought put into it via its idea of relying on oneself. It explains that he could not rely on anyone else otherwise he would not be where he is, he had to rely on himself to get there.
This relates to the article by Emerson by reflecting the same thoughts of an independent nature.

While his inventions have revolutionized times today, in his time people thought of him as insane.
