Dr. Kahn thinking from the perspective of an artist

I usually don't think like an artist but I think it can be helpful at times to get creative and think outside of the box. If I approached my teaching from the perspective of an artist, it would probably include a lot more diagrams, pictures, drawings, and visual representations. My students might even be more engaged if they preferred these artistic representations of content! I'm going to try to think more like an artist in my every day life as well so I can approach problems with a new perspective.

I feel like I think like a humanist pretty commonly because I find myself questioning a lot of things. Humanists are known for one thing to ask “why”. And I really now see myself all the time asking why this happens and why would this thing lead to this. Whether it’s political, personal or etc. I just feel I resonate with this one the most just because I am more curious than anything. I approach life with this way of thinking, even meeting know people. Why do they have this perspective or why do they think this certain way and in my everyday life I just apply that “why”.

I am personally have a very natural scientist perspective. Generally, this means I am usually thinking about the world around me and how it works. All the little details of life and how things function, live, or perform. I have a natural instinct to look at the details of different situation and get to the base of a question before forming an opinion. It is kinda like having a sense of control when you know what is happening and how it is happening. Also, contrary to popular belief, we do like to be creative. Creativity is how we discover the world around us.

I love science and it has always fascinated me since I was young. I just enjoy thinking about the reasons that things happen or why certain scientific discoveries were made. Science gives us the keys to unlock questions that we may have in our daily lives, and it provides you with the information necessary to make claims and get answers. My favorite scientific question is how did we get here? Reading on the many different theories of how the earth was created or the universe was formed allows you to craft your own ideas and answer those very questions. Seeing things from a scientific point of view allows one to make educated decisions on topics like healthcare or global warming, as they all have their roots in the realm of scientific knowledge.

I am not a very creative person, but I do like to think. I have always felt that sciences like biology and chemistry came easy to me. I feel like my brain is wired in that way to think like those classes. As a kid I always did science experiments and little projects for fun. My mom is a doctor who got a biology degree. I look up to her in so many ways. Although I don’t want to peruse medical or take a biology major right now I definitely find it interesting and useful. I like to think creatively but also logically and focus on details and perfection.

I enjoy knowing how different societies work. Once you gain and understanding on the way societies around you work you’re able to better understand the people living there. You are able to better understand people’s moods and why they behaving certain ways. This can later help peoples health and wellness as they are better understood as we study them. I think knowing how and why human behave is very important as our world itself is constantly changing.

I enjoy thinking from a more logical perspective, but often find it helpful when I take the humanist approach to my thinking. It helps me to view others perspectives and create worldview less overtly centered on logic and instead factors in more emotion and nuance. I can relate to the thinking of all perspectives, and I think most of us have some part of our brain wired for each perspective. I think anyone who primarily focuses on a single perspective sets their views up for failure because our world is nuanced and requires different ways of thinking for real world solutions.

If I were to think like a humanist, it would probably include 3 main elements. 1) Inclusive perspective. 2) Many different viewpoints. 3) How can I make everyone feel welcome. I usually don't think like this, but if I were to, I assume that I would try to include everyone, try to see everyone’s side of things even in An argument or debate, and I would make sure that no one felt left out. I think that humanist perspective means to view things with an open mind and to be fair to others even when it’s hard.

Thinking from the social scientist is very important. To me this means that we take into account the he prior experiences of people and the community around us, and consider how it influences our behavior. I really believe that if more people were considerate of these motivators we would be able to understand each other more fluently. Not only that, but if we recognized what drives us and what our biases are our society would be much more at peace. This is not to say society would be in agreement about everything, but we would be able to peacefully acknowledge our differences and respect that.

As an overthinker I would say that it would be easier for me to relate to a humanist perspective because I feel like I am constantly over analyzing how people are thinking what they are thinking and why could they be thinking that.

a social scientist perspective is so interesting because it involves looking constantly at society and those around us. Not only is it how society behaves and functions everyday but also how each individual interested, thinks, acts. Everyday you see and interact with people and others you don’t know in this world and it’s so interesting to see how each person acts differently or functions the same day to day.

As a film major, I feel like I naturally have a creative side. I love movies and the stories they tell and hope to tell stories of my own someday day. The artist’s perspective heavily fits into my life on a day to day basis. Instead of simply writing an essay and just trying to finish it, I will take time with it to explore creative avenues and really showcase my writing skills. Additionally, I always try to think outside the box. Rather than doing what has already been done before, I strive to be unique with what I create. This is not to say that I don’t take inspiration from others but instead I will build something new off of things that I read/see created by others. Sometimes, I will I was a more logical person but I will always appreciate this side of me.

Thinking as a social scientist requires you to be a critical thinker and analyzer. As a social scientist you tend to think about the how and why’s in society. Being a social scientist is important for research because it fuels the curiosity needed to successfully understand the structure and behavior of a project. And it allows you to not only have the motivation to memorize but also the motivation to understand the knowledge presented.

I would link to think like a social scientist today. I would like to example the interaction of people within their personal context. Look at how different world conflicts influence the creation and destruction of cultures and ideas throughout the world. I would like to understand the difference between those raised in the Pacific Northwest and Southeast Asia based on the availability of different foods and material... I would like to study current social conflicts in the context of those of the past.

I align most with the social scientist perspective because I believe it is crucial to analyze the behaviors and experiences of others in order to understand them. People are raised within different environments, and this greatly influences their behavior and attitudes when approaching life. Examining the social environment and experiences of an individual can tell you a lot about not only an individual, but the entire society. Along with that, looking at the social scientists perspective can also help us identify problems and overall improve our problem solving skills.

The social scientist perspective is quite interesting. Many times of every day of your life do you tend to think why people act the way they do? It seems to be that many people will disregard everyday interactions. You shouldn’t because when you have to ability to observe any social situation you’ll have the ability to be entertained. This is why I believe the the perspective of social science is so important because it not only grants you entertainment but also intelligence as well.

The humanist perspective is all humans, how they think, interact and discover. Humanists study the interconnectedness of everything from culture to religion. I would consider myself more of a humanist because I am naturally a very curious person. I am always asking myself questions and delving deeper into things that appear as surface level for most people. Every time I see something new on the street I always wonder what its purpose is. Why is it there and what is its significance. I really enjoy looking deeply into things like this as I feel like it makes my life less bland and allows me to enjoy the things around me.

From the perspective of a natural scientist the world is much different than the world the rest of us see. As an ENVS major I see the people in my course really care about the world around us and go out of their way to preserve it. This is because, from their perspective, everything in the world is connected. From the air to the deepest depths of the ocean, there are interacting systems that make the world unique and beautiful. And through repeated efforts we can maintain this natural beauty that we see around us in the world every day.

I think I often go about things from the perspective of a humanist. Growing myself and expanding on the knowledge that I already have is very important to me and I like to do that through other people. Building relationships and interacting with people who are very different from me helps me to gain insight into their mind and how they view the world. It's interesting to me because everyone is unique so I have lots of opportunity to learn and grow from all the people I meet.

from the perspective of a humanist, i view the world as realistic and ever changing. it’s not necessarily science changing the world, although it does, it’s the people and the growth we experience. i would ask questions related to that personal growth as well as if there’s a limit to how much one can grow? also, can one notice once they begin growing? i believe one can.

Artist Perspective

To me a person with an artist perspective would look at the world to see and not just listen to the noise of things. When people talk they don’t always tell the truth but their body does and the body language can tell you a lot about a person and what they’re thinking. Artist are very visual and create art to express something that words can’t express. This perspective is interesting because they view the world in a way where there is more expression in the little things like graffiti and how that conveys meaning. Artists drawings don’t always need to express and speak to outsiders but can be for the artist themselves where they express feelings on a canvas that others don’t understand and you’d just have to put yourself in their shoes to try and understand. I can relate to this when I’m thinking and I just need to get my thoughts and ideas down to where I just doodle on a piece of paper or design things in my head because I would find it excruciatingly hard to explain my ideas and thoughts to others so that’s why I draw instead to speak.
