Established in the 1960s by Mollie Randle and John English (Husband) who wanted to create a local arts centre for young people. The council therefore granted them land in Canon Hill Park. Since then, it has undergone a 15 million pound regeneration and extension.

The MAC does lots of charity and community work with art, design and movement at the core of it’s focus. It supports local artists, local communities of any social and ethnic background. With student support and experience available as well as health and wellness aid from young to old. It offers safe spaces, working environments, classes and teaching, events and celebrations and a chance to connect with nature and others.

Pottery, yoga, health and fitness, dance, crafts, textiles, sculpture, print, photography, film, digital arts and cinema. (Outdoor and indoor)

It’s organisers are volunteers young to old, students, artists, teams, the board, freelancers and community members.

It’s members are the foundation and centre of it’s structure. Then there is workers, volunteers, people with all varied skills, cooks, cafes, organisers, management and outsiders.

A team for each section.

It’s income comes from donations, charity, courses, shop/merch, cafe, tickets, drink, sponsors, collaborators and rent. If it appeals to all people they will want to support it: religious groups, accessible.

Its cultural and social value is that it has a very strong community sense, it focuses on inclusion and accessibility. It enriches the area away from the busy centre and so has a different dynamic and space, something different. ‘Cradle to grave’.

Jewellery and art market, prayer rooms, sari and fashion show exhibit and publications. The warmer months bring more of the outdoor spaces being used like the theatre and play areas.

The MAC is marketed through pamphlets, social media, arts centre focus and website. Also through word of mouth.
