While scrolling through Facebook, I found these sponsored ads appear on my timeline. I know these are personalized for me because builtbar.com contains nutritional bars that are high in protein. I used to search for products that were high in protein, therefore this ad was designed to draw me into their product. Additionally, I really love snacks. That is why this second advertisement was also personalized for me. This website allows you to select snacks, or even cleaning supplies, and have them sent to your home within minutes. I also am currently using HelloFresh for dinners throughout the week, which would make sense why a company like GoPuff would believe that I like to have food products sent directly to my home.

I was in my Gmail account looking through my inbox when I found an email advertising a new edition of the Nintendo Switch video game console. I know this advertisement was personalized due to the fact that I had been on Nintendo's website earlier in the day looking through their store (wanting to potentially purchase a new video game system) while signed into my account that was linked to my email address. Nintendo most likely used the data from my account to send this personalized advertisement directly to my email address to potentially persuade me to buy one of their products.

Today, after reading this assignment I knew exactly where to find a personalized ad so I went over to instagram. Not even 30 seconds into scrolling on my home page, I found a personalized ad for aerie leggings. I know for a fact it is personalized because I was looking at these very leggings just a few days ago on my laptop. They are targeting me because I am a 21 year old female which is within their target market, I am a previous returning customer, and because I visited their site and browsed a few days ago. I have to say, instagram ads may be the most successful ads because they are so well integrated with the feed that sometimes I don't even realize they are an ad.

Similar to Ana, when I read the assignment I knew where to go to find a personalized ad. Instagram always has eerily accurate ads to things I'm interested in, have talked about, or have searched before. This specific ad features the pair of jeans in a few different pictures. I think this ad is targeted towards me because I usually spend some time on ads that have pants that are similar, and I spend a good amount of time searching cool pants like that. Also, since I am a teenage girl who is in college, I am pretty much their exact target audience with cheaper clothing items. This ad features Adika, which is a website I have searched for and browsed on before, so they knew that an ad featured on my page would grab my attention.

After a few minutes of scrolling on instagram, I came across this add for some sort of pet related service. I know this ad is targeted to me because i just got a puppy a few weeks ago and have been making a lot of searches and visiting a lot of pet related websites. Because I visit a lot of pet websites and have purchased several dog products recently, google knows that I have a dog and that I am interested in dog related services like this one.

Like many others in the class, I knew that most of my personalized persuasion occurs through instagram ads. I have been looking at both Laneige and Sephora's websites a lot recently trying to find some new skincare products and seeing which has better deals and options for me. I ended up purchasing from Laneige's website, so the ads from them have slowed down but at least 5 times a day I see an ad for the products I was looking to buy from Sephora between Instagram and Facebook. They are targeting me for this ad's because I have spent time looking up these products and adding them to my cart on the websites and going back and reading reviews on the products. These as show up seamlessly in my feed and always seem to catch my eye on instagram. On Facebook I would say I notice that they are ads more but I still find myself clicking on the links. I have also noticed on Facebook when the ads appear it always says "___" likes Sephora or what ever brand and it is always the name of one of my Facebook friends.

After scrolling through two maybe three posts on instagram this ad popped up. I know this is personalized to me because I have been looking at these products on Sephora's website as well as the actual brands website for a few days now. I have been trying to see which has a better deal on the products that I need. I am a frequent customer here, as well as my demographics fit in their target market making me a good candidate to advertise to. I have been seeing these ads at least 3 times a day between instagram and Facebook. I did end up buying the products, but I bought form the brands website so I have continued to have more ads from Sephora as I didn't make any purchase from them and I get an occasional ad from the brand.

I am a big Celtics fan so a lot of the time I will google the stats or scores of games. Sometimes when I'm bored I will also look at their apparel like jersey's and sweatshirts and stuff with no intention of buying them. A lot of the times I will scroll through Instagram and see ads of those certain jerseys or clothing similar to it and how they are on sale. Before Covid19 I would also sometimes get ads or emails about buying tickets to attend a game or asking to vote certain players into the all-star game. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of these ads. Another time was a few days ago when I noticed an ad for a Brita water filter on a website I was on and the last time I looked for one was before Christmas so they still must have my information and still want me to buy one.

A place I most frequently see personalized ads for me
is on Instagram. I typically get ads for makeup, skincare, or gym-wear because these are the three things I buy most online. I often find myself scrolling through Sephora's page, or on Gymshark's website. Recently I was scrolling through my Instagram and a Fabletics advertisement came up. I have never bought from them, but it is similar to the type of things I look up. I find it a bit unsettling how much my phone knows about me. They know my hobbies, who my close friends are, and basically everything about me. Here's an example of the advertisement that was directed to me through Instagram:

Just by scrolling through my Instagram, everyday their is a new ad that pops up related to my prior searches on the internet. I honestly think it is pretty interesting to see different ads pop up when they are related to my searches. I often get a lot of clothing ads, vacation ads and some laser hair removal? Which is random since I never searched that up ever. Some ads are designed for you and some are just randomized I feel. I also get ads about the tv shows I watch which is nice but then again sometimes it seems weird that it knows these things about what you do. For example I watch Riverdale and I got an ad today on Instagram "Catch up before tomorrow's new episode" I just thought this was weird since I have not watched the week prior to this week's episode so I think that's weird. Here is the example:

Every day when scrolling on social media, I notice advertisements that are specifically targeted to me based on things I have viewed or my searches on Google. For example, after scrolling for about 10 seconds on Facebook to complete this assignment, an advertisement for oVertone coloring conditioner popped up on my timeline. This is a product I have been looking into, as I have been googling coloring conditioners that I can use to temporarily color my hair without doing something permanent. oVertone is one of the most popular brands that is used for this, and now every day I see advertisements for their products despite not yet purchasing one. I do notice that sometimes the advertisements I see are not exactly curated based on my searches. For example, the next product advertisement was about Nutella, which I do not normally search for or eat.

Ok, so I was trying to find some personalized ad in my social media as we should and I was having a hard time to find any. I was scrolling facebook and I see a bunch of suggested posts (which are personalized and I like it, because shows me things I want to see). Then browsing my colleagues here about their answers I saw someone else was exploring facebook and posted the sponsored section of ad.
So I got this same section (sponsored ad) and I can't really see personalization for me. One of the ads is about tax (what a surprise it is tax time), but I haven't been researching tax or anything. The second ad is about debit card that parents can manage or something. I have a pre-K at home and he is definitely not going be using a card soon.

I found this ad while I was scrolling Facebook. There are a few things that show me it is an ad. The first is that the format of the post is different than post made by Facebook's users. I also know it is an ad because below Amazon Prime video is the icon that says this is a sponsored post. I also know that this is personalized because I know that I have been watching a lot of Prime Video recently and seeing this ad shows me that Facebook knows I watch Prime Video and is recommending other shows that are on that platform.

I decided to search for some high end fake nails and gel nail polishes because I haven't been able to go to the nail salon. Just today, these two adds I have attached showed up in my feed on Instagram. It only took five minutes on the app to get more than two advertisements for some fake nails and other nail products, which I had searched for yesterday. It is obvious that these were targeted advertisements and that they were personalized in my feed because of what I was browsing the day prior.

One example I found of personalized media is right when I sign into my instagram account! Often on the main page after scrolling though a couple of pictures advertisements will show of things I may enjoy or want to buy. Recently I went on Expedia and Bahia Principe website to book a trip for next year and look at availability. The technology being used through those sites see that I'm on Instagram and pop up once again. I see it's targeting me because I was just on their site and now they are placing a book button to get me to go.

When going on Instagram I feel like I usually see a good number of ads. Today I saw an advertisement for phone cases on Instagram and I think it is personalized persuasion. This is because I have been looking for a new phone case recently, and often have been searching things related to that. Though this advertisement is from a company that I have never visited, a lot of my searches have to do with finding a phone case that is cute and can save a dropped phone.

Four of my friends have them and always wear them and talk about them. I googled them one time to look how much they were and now I constantly get ads for them. I will never buy one, but I continue to get ads for them day after day all because of one google search. I get the ads when Im on the internet and on social media because I googled it from my phone.

While on a random news site, I got a Redbubble ad. I found it strange considering I've never been on Redbubble before, but before I scrolled past, I saw the item it was advertising. It was a pillow, and on the pillow was an image of an extremely obscure reference to a YouTube channel I was a fan of. I'm talking about an in-joke for a community of, at most, 30,000 people at the time, and despite never going on the website, the ad had successfully determined that I might get a kick out of seeing such a remote piece of media I enjoy. It definitely made me question how precise advertisement algorithms had become, seeing as it could be this accurate.

I even mentioned the Levis brand by name in this conversation, because I had bought their clothes before and know I like the. Of course, without even thinking of this assignment, I slid up on the ad to see the Levis shop, because I was persuaded to buy the shorts after having talked about it that day!

This is a few examples of the different thumbnails Netflix will provide to different users. These are a couple of the profiles within my family. I find it interesting to see because the "In The Dark" thumbnail on my profile shows a comedic scene including a dog, which I am assuming Netflix knows the fact that I love dogs. In my sisters "In The Dark" thumbnail, however, a more dramatic scene is shown, and I feel like that can show that I enjoy more comedy shows whereas she likes to watch dramas. It's pretty interesting because I know this to be true about my sister and I, and apparently Netflix's algorithm does too! Another example is of the trending movie "The Tinder Swindler." On the left, my sisters shows almost what looks like a crime documentary thumbnail, where on the right, my thumbnail looks to be a technology based thumbnail. My sister loves to watch crime documentaries and I am definitely into technology, so I am seeing a trend of how Netflix personalizes thumbnails for people who have different interests, and what they tend to normally click on.

This is relevant to me because like us all, we're currently going to school at a university that requires studying in order to pass classes.

Whenever I am on Pinterest, Instagram, or even til Tok I look at wedding stuff (for my dream future wedding of course) or clothes. Every time I look on the explore or browse section of Pinterest it always shows me those two things. When you open up the photos its shows me where I can buy it. Even though they don't look like ads, it really is since it will show me every where to find almost everything in the photo. I don't really ever use Pinterest. I think I have looked things up a couple of times at most, but it will always show me ads.

When I was scrolling through TikTok, I come across various different sponsored ads as I am scrolling through my "for you page". This ad for the Samsung Galaxy popped up and was an example of targeted marketing in a persuasive way. They add it to my fyp to try to convince whoever comes across it to react and click on the blue link "learn more". These sponsored ads are always pretty convenient stuff I would use in my life and are definitly recommended based off of recent tiktoks I have liked.

I was scrolling through Instagram and discovered that I saw an add for a product I was looking at online a few days ago. I also have been looking online at beauty products lately which is why this ad does make sense. I understand that this is all apart of the algorithm and that it does seem weird that my phone is "listening" to me. I do enjoy the ads I see so I can't complain about the personalized content as at times it does benefit me.

This ad is personalized to me because Saks is one of my most shopped at stores. Whenever I see Saks ads on Facebook I always scroll all the way through because there's almost always several things I end up liking and sometimes buying. Sometimes I even go on Facebook just to see the personalized ads. It saves me hours sifting through pages online shopping.

A few weeks ago I was talking to one of my friends about their favorite brand of whiskey, and I had done a search for this particular brand once on Google. Since that time, I've received several personalized ads based upon that search on places such as Google and Instagram. I commonly see items that I've recently searched for appear to me in suggested ads in the days following.

Everyday when I scroll through my social media platforms I see ads that have something to do with my life. Just today I was using a bunch of tissues and I got an ad for tissues on my Instagram. I don't often use a ton of tissues but I find it odd that when I end up using a lot of them in one day I get an ad for them showing up on my screen. I've seen this before with other types of things, I get ads for bathing suits when I have been recently looking for more for a trip.
