Education Funding

It's not an obscure fact that Alabama has one of the worst education systems in all of America. It may not seem like it here in Vestavia, but all across the state, there are various places where most kids can't get a good education. According to usnews.com, our state is actually ranked 44th in education. One main cause of this is that we are not using our money well on education. Justin Bogie writes on alabamapolicy.org, "What did taxpayers get from that increase in spending? Not much. Despite better rankings on the most recent National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) scores, there was little meaningful improvement in K-12 test scores" (Bogie). Even while taxes are being increased, the money is not being used well to help students. As State Treasurer, I will strive to use this money better. With all of this unused budget, our state could give schools critical resources such as textbooks, computers, buses, and playgrounds. With a stronger education comes a stronger workforce, allowing us, the State of Alabama, to take one step ahead in growing our economy.

Income Gap

Our state's income gap is growing, and it is growing quickly. Currently, the richest 5% earn an average of about $238,200 a year, and the poorest 20% earn an average of about $18,700 a year. That means that the richest 5% earn almost 13 times the amount that the poorest 20% earn! Additionally, this gap has been widening and probably will widen more if we do not do anything to stop it. Just to be clear, I am not saying that the rich are bad. My point is that our government is currently not doing enough to close the income gap and decrease poverty. In office, I will make sure that solving this problem is one of our treasury's first priorities. We can raise wages and make better inheritance taxes. I will never let our state stop in our endeavor to help the less privileged.

Food Insecurity

As you may know, many people lack stable access to food and water all across Alabama, but you might not even know its severity. 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children face hunger. As the 5th most poor state in America, many people have barely sufficient income to pay for all of the necessities such as rent and mortgage. This leaves them with little money to buy food. I promise to help decrease this high rate of food insecurity by directing more of our budget towards funding food banks and soup kitchens all across the state.

My logo is an arrow pointing forward, representing progression. This shows my goals of helping Alabama grow, protecting our future generations, and creating economic opportunities. Inside the arrow, the outline of Alabama is the state that I live in. The green color of the arrow along with the dollar bills inside the outline of Alabama represent the economy, and the red and white shadows stand for America. The fonts for my name and slogan were picked to catch the viewer's eye, and the date along with the office had a professional-looking font. I hope that this logo appeals to younger people like me who like flashy colors, but also older people, who believe in their country and state's values.

This "friend" in my slogan is me. This slogan is a good summary of my goals as State Treasurer. "Our future" means many things. It means our posterity, our future economy, and our living environment. This slogan shows how I care about helping our community grow, giving more opportunities for those who come after us. Writing this slogan, I added alliteration to make it more memorable and fun to say.
