The Locations Don't Add Up

The locations Jay gave made sense with where most cell towers hit their phones, but it doesn't add up with the times of the events. It took 1 hr 20 mins in estimate. However, the information of when everything happened makes it seem to have taken 22 mins 02 secs. Episode 5.

Mr. S Discoverd a Body

Mr. S was interviewed by a detective and he said he went home to collect something he needed at the school. He went home during lunch period and grabbed a 22 oz Budweiser. He was drinking on his way back to the school where he worked, and had to go to the bathroom, so he pulled over and went further into the woods so nobody saw him urinate. That's when he discovered the body. Episode 3.

Jay's Story

Jay begins his story with how they were shopping together, him and Adnan. They had a conversation. During the conversation, he was going to 'kill that bitch', referring to Hae. Jay didn't take it seriously. They went shopping to get Jay's girlfriend a birthday gift, and he didn't have a car, so Adnan picked him up, and that's when Adnan told Jay he was going to kill Hae. That day Adnan had school, Jay drove him there and Adnan left Jay with the car. The car was left with Jay because Adnan said he was going to kill Hae.

Later that day, Jay gets a phone call, it's Adnan. Adnan said to him, "The bitch is dead. Come and get me. I'm at Best Buy." which leads Jay to drive to Best Buy. Hae wasn't with him in the parking lot when Jay saw him. Adnan asked Jay to get out of his car, so he did, and proceeded to ask Jay, "Are you ready for this?" Adnan popped the trunk and all he could see was Hae's dead body. Episode 4.

Track Practice

Jay drove Adnan back to the school for track practice. Practice started at 4:00. He went to practice for an alibi. He wanted to be seen by people at practice. Episode 1.

Ronald Lee Moore

During an interview, Deirdre Enright described a man to Sarah Koenig but refused to tell the name. Enright mentioned him as his "guy" and his "guy" was in prison a lot. The man was linked to two rapes and a murder. The motives in all of them were stealing. The man said he got out and became active for fourteen months, his release date was January 1, 1999. Enright claimed he didn't know this man's name and wouldn't tell him. What he mentioned by accident is that he referred to him as 'Ronald'. Ronald Lee Moore was dead, he killed himself. But he committed lots of crimes. He was imprisoned in Baltimore for assault and thievery convictions. According to a Baltimore Sun Article, in 2007 he was supposed to be transferred to a different jail in Anne Arundel County to be prosecuted for a different crime, but the Baltimore officials released him by accident. He was coincidentally released thirteen days before Hae disappeared. Episode 12.

Phone Booth

Jay tells the detectives that Adnan called him on January 13, 1999, and told Jay he killed Hae. When he gets there he sees Adnan standing by the phone booth wearing red gloves. He drew a map for the cops showing the location of the phone booth. His drawing shows that if you're facing the front doors of the store his drawing shows the booth on the left side of the sidewalk. The confusing part is there was never a phone booth or payphone there, there's no evidence of a phone booth being outside the store. There was never a phone inside the store either. Episode 5.

Hae's Diary

Hae writes about typical everyday teenage girl struggles in her diary. It tends to be a bubbly mood and then she switches to talking about being upset with her mother, current or past relationships, dissing her friend, or complaining about homework. She left Adnan messages and notes including, "He hasn't called me since 12:30 this afternoon and it's definitely pushing me to the edge. I think I'm gonna pick a fight."

Hae's friends mention she had a strong personality and strong opinions, she was no pushover. If she was pissed with Adnan, she let him know.

She left many notes about how he was 'the sweetest' and 'the best boyfriend in the world'. The things she wrote to complain about him were never about him being controlling or possessive. Episode 2.

Detective Jim Trainum

Jim Trainum is a professional detective Sarah Koenig hired to help in the investigation. He was given files, tapes, and transcripts. What he noticed about Jay's story is that it circled for the cops. It started with a suspicion of Adnan. From Adnan's cell records, they got to Jenn, who led them to Jay, who then told them it was Adnan. Trainum thought it was weird how the cops never searched Jay's house. The cops, he thought, settled for what was good enough to be the truth. Trainum said he did have his doubts about Adnan's innocence, but something about his case was "off." Episode 8.
