At Drake's C of E Primary School from The Link Academy, transferable target words are identified alongside the children. This is done across all ages and subjects. These become our 'yellow target words' and each class works in similar ways to encourage the children to explore and use their target words . At the end of a sequence or unit of work the words are kept in a book or file and revisited regularly to help the children retain them.

The classes at Northam Federation have created a traffic light in each class. Each teacher carefully chooses the vocabulary they want to teach for that half term, linking to topic or English. When we learn new words we add them to the traffic light, placing them at the level to show how familiar we are with the word. We spend time focusing on the 'red' words, using them as much as possible to become confident with them.
